Restored Steam Engines in Japan

2009

In 2009, there are fourteen restored steam engines in eight classes which can run on main line in Japan.

In addition, there are several small restored engines across the country, and five big restored engines ( B20-10, 8630, C61-2, C62-2 and D51-200 ) in Umekoji museum Kyoto. But they cannot run on main lines because of safety reasons. They can run only inside of a museum or a park's limited small area or yard area.

Incidentally, during 2009, JR-East has one more engine restoring plan, that candidate engine is a class C61 No.20. She is preserved in Isezaki city Gunma prefecture now.
