Gendai Reikiho Glossary

 

Anshin Ritsumei:  a state where the mind is perpetually filled with peace, tranquility and joy, Daianshin

Byosen Reikan-ho:  sensing the Hibiki by the palm (*Hibiki=Byosen felt by the palm of the hand

Byosen:  negative vibration emitted by the diseased part of the body

Daianshin:  a state where the mind is perpetually filled with peace, tranquility and joy, Anshin Ritsumei

Four concepts of Gendai Reikiho:  1) Healing of the body and mind and spiritual growth, 2) Avoidance of secrets, miracles and mystery, 3) Use of effective Reiki techniques, 4) Practicability in daily life

Gassho Kokyu-ho: gassho breathing method

Gassho:  bringing the hands together

Gendai Reikiho:  is not a new Reikiho but a new way to practice Reiki, blending both Eastern and Western Reiki Ryoho

Gokai:  Mikao Usui Sensei’s Five Precepts; Just for Today, Do not be angry, Do not worry, Be grateful, Work hard,Be kind to others

Gyosei:  an Emperor’s poem; Mikao Usui Sensei selected 125 poems written by the Emperor Meiji to be studied by Reiki Ryoho students

Gyoshi-ho:  treatment by staring at the affected part

Hado Kokyu-ho:  breathing method that involves exhaling with the sound “Haaa.”

Hado Meiso-ho:  meditation method using Hado-Kokyu

Hanshin Koketsu-ho:  purifying the blood of the upper half of the body

Hasshodo:  one of the basic teaching of Buddha that describes eight rightful conducts, which are Shoken (right recognition), Shoshiyui (right thinking), Shogo (right words), Shogyo (right deeds), Shomyo (right occupation), Shoshoujin (right effort), Shonen (right [physical/mental] awareness), Shojyou (right concentration)

Hatsureiho:  technique to strengthen inner Reiki

Heso Chiryo-ho:  navel treatment

Hibiki:  the negative energy emitted by the diseased part

Higher Self:  the perfect, ideal "you" that is always guiding you on your journey through life; your true self, soul, great self, inner wisdom, divine self

Hikari no Kokyu-ho:  light breathing method; Joshin Kokyu-ho

Hikari:  Light.  The three strokes above the horizontal stroke represents that one is the focus of the Universal energy.  The horizontal stroke represents that one is spreading the Light which one received from the Universe on the ground.  Of the strokes below the horizontal stroke, the left represents the Universal energy flowing toward the Earth, and the right represents the energy being returned to the Universe.

Ho (- ho):  method/technique

Ho:  traditional Reiki Ryoho Symbols

Jaki:  harmful or malicious ki

Jakikiri Jokaho:  technique to purify harmful ki

Joka:  purification

Joshin Kokyu-ho:  mind purification breathing method

Kenyoku-ho:  dry bathing purification technique

Kenyoku:  dry bathing

Ketsueki Kokan-ho:  treatment involving purifing the blood with Reiki; the two methods are Hanshin Koketsu-ho and Zenshin Koketsu-ho

Ki:  qi, chi, invisible energy

Kizuki:  epiphany

Koki-ho:  treatment by blowing on the affected part

Komyo:  light that shines on darkness; in Buddhism the light emanating from the body and mind of Buddha, symbolizing wisdom (Dai=Great)

Koten Hanno:  healing crisis, physical or mental reaction to a favorable turn of the condition

Kotodama:  Mantra

Manabi:  learning

Nadete Chiryo-ho:  treatment involving stroking with the palms

Nen:  forceful intention, strong desire

Nentatsu-ho:  technique to send an intention to the subconscious (do not mistake it for a healing by forceful intention)

Oshite Chiryo-ho:  treatment involving push with fingertips

Reiji-ho:  entrusting the hands to Reiki to direct them to the Byosen

Reiju:  technique to promote the flow of Reiki energy; original form of Attunement during Usui Sensei’s time

Reiki Mawashi:  Reiki Circle

Reiki Ryoho no Shiori:  Guide to Reiki Ryoho; a guidebook published during Houichi Wanami, the fifth Gakkai President’s time

Reiki Undo:  Reiki Body Movements Technique.  Reiki Undo is not a formal technique.  It used to be practiced by a group of people whose bodies accidentally started moving during Hatsurei-ho.  Not everybody experiences such body movements.

Reiki:  “ethereal ki” in general Japanese, “Universal Energy of the highest dimension” in Reikiho

Reikiho, Reiki Ryoho:  Reiki utilization technique originally founded by Mikao Usui Sensei (1865 ? 1926)

Renzoku-Reikiho:  Reiki Marathon

Seiheki Chiryo-ho:  treatment for bad habits

Sekizui Joka Ibuki-ho:   Karma purifying breathing method based on ancient Shinto teachings

Shudan-Reikiho:  Group Reiki

Shuyokai:  Reiki training session during Mikao Usui Sensei’s time

Tanden Chiryo-ho:  Tanden treatment

Tanden:  lower abdomen

Teate, Teate-ho:  hands-on healing technique; the hands are kept on the Hibiki until the Byosen is no longer perceivable

Tekazashi:  hands-over healing technique

The Three Major Techniques of Reiki Ryoho:  Byosen Reikan-ho, Tanden Chiryo-ho and Ketsueki Kokan-ho

Uchite Chiryo-ho:  treatment involving tapping with the palms

Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai:  society founded by Mikao Usui Sensei in 1922 for the study of Reiki Ryoho

Usui Reiki Ryoho Hikkei:  handbook on Reiki Ryoho; consists of four parts; the “Usui Reiki Ryoho Kyogi” (Usui Reiki Ryoho Doctrine), “Kokai Denju Setsumei” (In Explanation of Making Energy Transmission Open to Public), “Ryoho Shishin” (Ryoho Guidelines) and “Gyosei” (Imperial Poems).  “Usui Reiki Ryoho Kyogi” (the Five Precepts) and “Kokai Denju Setsumei” are written by Mikao Usui Sensei himself

Zenshin Koketsu-ho:  purifying the blood of the entire body
