As soon as they left the Guild hall, a girl named Aria came, and asked them to escort her to Crimson Town. Before Lina could ask her the reason, however, they were attacked by an old man named Zonagain. While they fought fiercely, with the old man summoning the lowest class Mazoku and unite them with small beasts in the city, making many lesser demons, Lina realized that his purpose wasn not to kill them but instead to test their fighting abilities. Lina stopped to fight, and she and Gourry left the city with Aria Ashford.

     On the way, Lina asked Aria about the reason why she was going to Crimson Town. Aria told Lina about her sister, Bell. She had lost her lover, and had forced to marry to Cairus, the chief counselor of Crimson Town. A few days later, Bell had summoned Aria and tole her that Cairus had planned to rebel against the king. Aria had come to Telmode City with the news, but Cairus acted earlier than she expected. Now, Aria was anxious about her sister, and wwanted to rescue her from Cairus.

    Four days into the journey, they were again attacked by Zonagain, this time accompanied by Graimore. The fight was interrupted by Dilarl, and Zonagain withdrew again, but not before Gourry slew Graimore. Aria then guided them to the hill next to the town and suggested that they enter the town through a canal, avoiding the royal army.

    Using the Raywing, Lina and her comrades went under water. Soon, they were attacked by many fish-demons. They fled from the canal and ran into an empty house, where Lina tunneled down, intending to enter the Sorcerer's Guild from below. Suddenly, the bottom dropped out of the tunnel, and the four were dropped into and underground lake. There, they washed ashore to small islands in the center of the lake, where, they were attacked by the grotesque chimera Narof. They killed it, and searched for an exit from the lake. That exit was guarded by another chimera, Aireus, that had the ability to absorb both the body and ability of others. It created the face of Narof and used the power of it. Lina defeated this chimera with Bram Blazer.

    The passage led to the house of Cairus, where they met both Cairus and Bell. Cairus attacked them with Zonagain and another chimera, Mucale. Dilarl and Aria tried to escape from a window, but Dilarl was wounded badly. Lina and Gourry withdrew with Aria and dying Dilarl.

    After they buried Dilarl, the remaining heroes returned to the Cairus' house. They found that Cairus was actually a chimera himself, and that he absorbed the body and ability of Mucale. Lina then killed Cairus with her Ragna Blade.
