On the way there, they saw "Shaman" kill a young man, who then tried to kill them as well. When Lina and Gourry were attacked by "Shaman" again, their fight was interrupted by Luke, Milina and Jade Codewell.

    Luke explained that he had heard of events in Gairia City from Jade. After the city was destroyed by someone (actually, Xelloss!), the king proceeded to recruit many mercenaries. Among them, one female soldier rapidly rose to the rank of general --- General Sherra.

    Lina and her comrades went to see what had happened in Gairia City, but on their way, a town was attacked by many lesser demons and brass demons. Before Lina fould intervene, however, she wa attacked by Lebifore, "Shaman" and "Hydra". They killed "Hydra", but Lebifore and "Shaman" escaped again. Many of the attacking demons were slain by a white giant that appeared and then disappeared again.

    When they arrived at the gate of Gairia City, they heard that Jade was banned from entering the city, and that his father had died of an illness. The gatekeeper said that order to keep Jade out of the city had come from General Als.

    That night, they discussed the preparations they should make for the coming battle. Luke said that his sword could be charged with a spell, and that Gourry should use Luke's sword and Jade should use Gourry's sword, because neither of them could use magic, and they expected to fight against Mazoku. Then, Lina and Milina were attacked by Guberg, and three men were attacked by Licagis and another Mazoku. Milina killed Gburg and Gourry and Luke killed another, but Licagis escaped.

    They sneaked into Gairia City, and Maius, the gatekeeper from that morning, helped hide them in his room.

    When Lina, Gourry, Luke, Milina and Jade arrived on the roof of a building in the castle, a Mazoku attacked them. Lina ran inside the building, shouting that Mazoku had come to attack the castle, and in the ensuing confusion, they managed to get into General Als' room. Jade and Als dueled with swords, and Jade won. He grilled the general about what had happened to Jade's Jade's father, Grancis Codewell. Als said that he had introduced Sherra to King Wells Zeno Gairia, because he had loved the king greatly and wished to please him. But, when he had learned that Sherra had summoned General Codewell, and that Codewell had died a few days later, Als had begun to doubt Sherra. He then asked Jade and his friends not to harm the king, even if they had to face Sherra.

    Lina and the gang the tried to reach the king's office, but Lebifore, "Shaman", Licagis, Baze and many other demons ambushed them in the king's audience chamber. Lebifore revealed that "Shaman" had been a human with the name "Grancis Codewell". Sherra had made General Codewell into a half-human, half-Mazoku being. In the battle followed, Lina killed Lebifore and Baze, while Gourry killed "Shaman" and Luke killed Licagis.

    Finally, they arrived at the king's office. The king ordered Sherra to kill all of the invaders, and then left through a hidden corridor. Jade withdrew, to find General Als so that the two of them could pursue the king. Lina and tje rest fought against Sherra and, at last, Sherra died with a smile on her face.
