Sellentia City was famous for its five big shrines, so much that people call it the "City of Shrines". In the center of the city, there stood the main shrine, dedicated to the Flare Dragon Suifeed. There were a shrine of Aqualord Ragradia in the north, a shrine of Flarelord Vrabazard in the east, a shrine of Airlord Vaalwin in the west, and a shrine of Earthlord Langort in the south, as well.

    Before Lina and Gourry arrived at the city, the main shrine had been burned down, and the chief priest Joshua had been burned to death. Since then, the high priests of the other four shrines had quarreled over who would have been next chief priest. Every priest had hired mercenaries, and someone even hired an assassin. Those men who had met Lina and Gourry had to have been two of them.

    The chief counselor of the Sorcerer's Guild of Sellentia City, who had been a good friend of the dead chief priest, hired Lina and Gourry to prevent the other four high priests from fighting each other until their next meeting, at which they would select the next chief priest.

    Lina and Gourry went to the north shrine to introduce themselves, and found that Luke and Milina had been hired as bodyguards of the high priest, Kereth Rolencio.

    After meeting with him, Lina and Gourry went to the burned main shrine, where a guard guided them inside. He said that it had been an accident, but Gourry felt something watching them. They couldn't find it, but Lina realized that the fire had not been an accident, because she saw that the chief priest's room had been destroyed by an offensive spell.

    Next day, Lina and Gourry met with the high priest Rolencio, and Gourry told him that the chief priest had been killed by someone, before Lina could stop Gourry up. She had thought that if the four high priests had known the news, they would have been more cautious, and some of them would have tried to kill the others.

    She hurried to the west shrine, and found a bloodbath.

    All the men in the shrine, including the high priest Blanc Koncniel, had been killed by four assassins. Lina cast Sleeping, but two of them weren't affected by it. Gourry killed one assassin with his Blast Sword, but another assassin killed his sleeping allies and ran away.

    The next day, Lina and Gourry introduced themselves to the high priest of the south shrine, Lian Sainfort, and on their way back to their inn, they met Luke and Milina, who had been waiting for them. Their employer, the high priest Rolencio, asked them to help Lina and Gourry investigate the case.

    The four went to the back streets in the south area of the city. Lina expected to find the assassin she met the day before, and soon, Lina and the others were surrounded by some gangs and assassins. In the battle, Lina noticed that some of the assassins were half-human, half-Mazoku beings, whom she had met in Solaria. One of them was Zord, and he said that he gathered his comrades, because he had wanted to take revenge upon Lina and Gourry.

    Milina was cut by a poisoned knife of an enemy, and Lina and the others ceased to chase Zord and took her to the nearest shrine, but the high priest Sainfort refused to heal her, because Milina had been Rolencio's bodyguard. Then, Lina, Luke and Gourry brought her to the north shrine, but there was no one who could use Resurrection, and Milina died. Luke was filled with hatred, because he had loved her very much. He had been a killer before he had met with Milina, and he had quit that dirty job because he had wanted to be with her.

    He couldn't help but wanting to kill those people who had killed Milina. Not only those assassins who poisoned her, but the high priest of the east shrine, Francis Demitory, who had hired them, and the high priest Sainfort, who had refused to save Milina, all were Luke's targets.

    After Luke killed the assassins, he told Lina and Gourry not to stop him, but they knew that at least part of him wanted to be stopped, so they went to the east shrine to protect the high priest Demitory against Luke. The high priest said that he had heard a voice of God telling that he should have gather men in order to protect himself. Luke used magic spells to lure Lina and Gourry out of Demitory's room, and then took the high priest away to the backyard of the shrine, and killed him.

    Lina and Gourry tried to stop Luke in the south shrine as well. The high priest told them that he had been chosen by God to control the city. Luke again succeeded in killing the high priest. Still, his hatred kept driving him mad. Finally, he decided to kill the high priest Rolencio, because he couldn't save Milina.

    Lina and Gourry arrived at the north shrine earlier than Luke did. They knew that part of his soul still wanted to be stopped, and told the high priest Rolencio about Luke's troubled heart. The high priest made up his mind to wait for him in the chapel, with only Lina and Gourry. He never feared for his life, but wished to stop this tragedy.

    At last, Luke arrived at the north shrine, and Gourry attacked him with his sword. Luke knew that he was no match for Gourry, and used magic spell to seal Gourry's leg into ice, damaging his own left hand in the process.

    Suddenly, high priest Rolencio stopped and stood in front of Luke, and said, "kill me. Just kill me, if you can stop by killing me. You fought with your friends only to kill me, and you hurt your hand only to kill me. It's enough. I don't want to see it any more." Luke hesitated, and when Lina pointed that he was standing in front of the door of the room in which Milina had died, he ran away without killing Rolencio.

    Two days later, the chief counselor of the Sorcerer's Guild and some influential men in the city gathered to select next chief priest. Rolencio refused to take the place. He said that he once had thought that he had heard a voice of God, but he knew that he was too immature to be a chief priest. Listening to him, Lina felt that something wrong. She had heard that three of four high priests had heard the voice of God. Lina thought that there had to be someone who had manipulated them.
