Next day, Lina and Gourry arrived at a village which was covered with snow... but it wasn't a winter day. They found many dead bodies who had been killed by the winged demons. Lina and Gourry killed the demons and a Mazoku that had created those winged lesser demons then appeared. It looked like a human without skin, a muscular specimen. When the muscle Mazoku found that its enemies were Lina Inverse and Gourry Gabriev, it withdrew from them.

    It was just the beginning. Just like in Gairia city, that had been attacked by lesser demons and brass demons, many cities and villages were attacked by demons. About ten days after that first night when Lina and Gourry killed a winged lesser demon, they met with Mirgazia and Memphis Linesword, who had come there to investigate what had been going on.

    Later, when Lina, Gourry, Mirgazia and Memphis took their lunch in a restaurant, a Mazoku appeared that looked like a dead tree. When Gourry cut it into two, each pieces resurrected as a Mazoku, and shot wooden arrows at Gourry. Suddenly, the muscle Mazoku appeared and protected Gourry against the arrows.

    The wooden Mazoku got out of the restaurant, and Lina and her comrades ran out of the restaurant, too, only to find that the Mazoku had disappeared. Lina saw that another Lina had been watching at her and walked away. Lina soon discovered that someone who looked like her had asked the way to Sairaag. Lina and her comrades realized that Mazoku invited Lina to Sairaag city.

    Lina and her comrades decided to go to Sairaag, and they arrived at Atlas city. There Lina met with a girl, Rubia. Rubia was a copy of an assistant of Halcifom, who had made a contract with a Mazoku. At that time, Rubia had killed him by her own hand. But she invited Lina to her house as a friend. Rubia ran a flower shop, and she said that she had a greenhouse. Lina and Gourry were very excited to see a greenhouse, enjoying the flowers and grasses growing there. But the dead tree Mazoku appeared again! It had two bodies and Mirgazia attacked both of the bodies at the same time, making the Mazoku unable to resurrect, but one of them was protected by a man, who appeared suddenly. He was a Mazoku, Buladu, and he summoned Vaidaazu and Guon. Gourry cut Guon, and from the Mazoku's body, green liquid showered on Lina. Lina was in danger, but the green shower was turned aside by the muscle Mazoku, which killed Guon. Buladu and the muscle Mazoku called each others a "betrayer", so Lina knew that the Mazoku had a violent internal strife. Pulado killed the muscle Mazoku, and then tried to kill Lina and her comrades, but at that time, Xelloss appeared.

    Xelloss said to Buladu, "I'm neutral. But I'm anxious that a Mazoku kills another Mazoku for the sake of such a little thing. So, I wish you to leave here." Buladu withdrew, and Lina tried to get an information what was going on in Sairaag from Xelloss in exchange for the two coppers she had lent him two days before Lina and Xelloss had arrived at Gairia city. But Xelloss said that he would repair the broken greenhouse in exchange for the coppers. Lina imagined that Xelloss would rebuild a greenhouse like a carpenter would, but Xelloss only twirled his staff and the broken pieces of glass came back to where they had been, and the greehouse was thoroughly repaired. Xelloss said "Now, I owe you nothing. So, for about what we are thinking about the things..." Gourry interupted "It's a secret, isn't it?". "Gourry-san, you spoiled everything!" Xelloss said and disappeared.

    When Lina, Gourry, Mirgazia and Mephy left the house of Rubia, Buladu attacked them again. This time, it brought more than two dead tree Mazoku with it, and Lina found out that those dead tree Mazoku were the alter egos of Buladu. Mirgazia shot several dozens of balls of magical energy at the Mazoku, Memphis prevented the Mazoku from going back to the Astral side with her Zenafa armor, Gourry cut the dead tree Mazoku and Lina cast a Dynast Breath at Buladu. The damaged Mazoku tried to tell them what was going on in Sairaag, but Xelloss' black cone stuck through Buladu from head to toe.

    Lina knew why Xelloss had killed Buladu. Xelloss was interested with the forthcoming result when Lina would arrived at Sairaag. He didn't want her to be disturbed by Buladu, so, Xelloss watched for when Buladu would attack Lina and her comrades again. As long as Xelloss was interested in the happenings, events would be dangerous, Lina knew.

    Finally, Lina and her comrades arrived at "the Forest of Bad Atmosphere", that surrounded Sairaag. There, two girls were waiting for them. Both of them looked like a girl of about twenty. One has rather short blond hair and was tall. The other has long black hair, and wore an expensive blue dress. The blond girl said that only Lina and Gourry were invited, so Mirgazia and Memphis should wait there. When the gold dragon and the elf refused, the girl in blue dress trapped Lina and Gourry into another space.

    There they met with a man with a white mask set with two rubies. It was the third resurrected piece of Ruby Eye Shabranigudo. It said that the place was a temporary space, and was a skin nearer to the other universes. The place was filled with the magical energy, so, Lina would be able to cast a spell without an incantation and Gourry's sword would be able to damade the dark lord, since the Blast Sword absorbed the magical energy and channeled that energy into its sharpness. In other words, Ruby Eye gave Lina and Gourry a chance to destroy Shabranigudo again.

    Lina cast spells in order to give Gourry a chance to attack Ruby Eye, but the dark lord fought back with a staff, the legendary Staff of Bones. But Gourry found out that the enemy used the same fighting skill as one of his friends --- Luke.

    Luke revealed that his hair was red and he had had a piece of Shabranigudo in him. The strong hatred in Luke had made him hope to unite with the dark lord, but after Luke became Shabranigudo, a part of Luke's soul still loved his friends and lost lover. He couldn't see what to do --- without the world, Luke couldn't have met with Milina, but Milina had been killed by a man who had been united with a Mazoku. Luke hated the human because some human had invented a skill to unite a man with a Mazoku. He hated Mazoku as well, because Dynast and Sherra had found that a piece of their dark lord had been sealed in Luke. Luke=Shabranigudo hoped to fight with Lina and Gourry. If Luke could kill them, then he would destroy the universe. If Luke=Shabranigudo was destroyed by them, then the universe would be in peace. Luke wore his mask again, and changed the staff into a sword, and Lina and Gourry begun to fight against the resurrected Ruby Eye again.

    In the battle with Luke=Shaburanigudo, Gourry was seriously wounded, and Lina had a little chance to defeat the enemy. Suddenly, she crushed one of the Demon Blood talismans with her teeth, and summoned the power of Chaotic Blue. It damaged Ruby Eye. She crushed another Demon Blood with her teeth, and summoned the power of Death Fog. Ruby Eye's sword was chipped. Lina crushed black Demon Blood with her teeth, and summoned the power of Dark Star. The mask of the dark lord was covered with chips. The last Demon Blood was for Ruby Eye, but the power of Ruby Eye couldn't kill itself. The dark lord swang his sword at Lina, but she cut it with two blades of emptiness in her hands. Then Lina crushed red Demon Blood with her teeth, and cast a Dragon Slave at Luke=Shabranigudo.

    Ruby Eye said, "A spell channels my power can't work for me... You know that... Why? Why you cast it?... Why am I dying?" Lina said, "It is no use to cast a spell with the power of the dark lord at the dark lord, because it is the same thing to say that help me to kill you... But when you wish to be killed...". Luke=Shabranigudo was ruined, and Lina and Gourry went back to Sairaag.

    Mirgazia and Memphis came to meet Lina and Gourry at an inn, and Memphis called them as "the Demon Slayers". Mirgazia said that the two girls whom they had met in "the Forest of Bad Atmosphere" were Greater Beast Zellas Metalliom and Deep Sea Dolphin, since, they had had the stronger power than Xelloss.

    Mirgazia and Memphis left Sairaag and went to clean up the demons. Lina asked Gourry where he wanted to go. He said, "How about your parents' home?" Lina thought that Gourry had proposed to her, but he said, "You've said that your homeland is famous with grapes, and grapes are in season now". She hit him with a slipper, but at last they decieded to go to her hometown, Zefeel city, the castle city of Zefeeria kingdom.
