Slayers Series Part 1 2. Sorcerer of Atlas(first published 25 Aug.1990)
Characters Lina Inverse, Gourry Gabriev, Tarim, Daymiar, Halcifom, Rod(swordsman), Lantz(swordsman), Rubia, Seigram & Gio Gaea(Mazokus)
Lina and Gourry arrived at Atlas City. About half a year before, the chairman of the Sorcerer's Guild, Halciform the White, had disappeared, and there was a serious conflict between the two vice-chairmen, Tarim the Violet and Daymiar the Blue. Both of them wanted to be the next chairman. (The colors are of their robes, which a sorcerer is given by the Sorcerer's Guild. Lina is officially called "Lina the Pink", but she hates the color.)

Tarim and Daymiar were anxious that they would be attacked or killed by the enemy, and both of them recruited bodyguards. At first, Lina wouldn't accept any jobs at Atlas, but then they encountered two Mazokus, Seigram the Faceless and Gio Gaea the Two Masks (with Seigram the more powerful of the two). She didn't want to flee in the face of the Mazoku, and she accepted Tarim's offer.

Tarim employed a skillful swordsman, Rod, too. He is a fighting maniac, and he knew Gourry was match with him at the first sight. Lantz was also a mercenary and a bodyguard of Tarim and he admired Gourry's skill very much.

One night, a group of homunculus warriors and chimera wolves attacked the residence of Tarim. Lina, Gourry, Rod and Lantz struck back. During the battle, Lina noticed Seigram the Faceless watching her. Seigram didn't want to fight with her, and it fled from her. Lina and Gourry chased it, and at last they arrived at the residence of Daymiar. They sneaked inside and found Daymiar in his huge room. But when they tried to seize Daymiar, both of them fell down in a trap.

Under Daymiar's room, there was a huge pool and five big posts stood up from water. Lina and Gourry got up on the top of a post. Gourry noticed something laid on the bottom of water. Lina swam down to the bottom and found a man was caught in a huge emerald. The man was Halcifom the White. He used "Telepathy" magic to talk with Lina, and he told that he was trapped in the emerald by Tarim and Daymiar. Lina released Halcifom from the emerald.

Lina and Gourry thought that Tarim had lied to them, so they wouldn't go back to him. On the next day, Lantz found Lina and Gourry. He said that something happened in the Daymiar's residence. They went there and they found a big chunk of meat with the face of Daymiar on it. It was the curse of Mazoku -- Raugnuto Rushavna. That curse changed a man to a chunk of meat, and he felt terrible pain. Although he asked for mercy killing, nobody could kill him, because the curse had made him immortal. He could die only when the Mazoku which cursed the man was ruined.

Lina and Gourry suspected that Tarim had used Seigram, and they went to his residence, but they found only the headless body of Tarim. Rod appeared and told them that he worked for Halcifom then. Gourry dueled with him, and killed the fighting maniac.

Lina and Gourry went to Halcifom's residence, and in the basement, they met the living head of Tarim. He said that Halcifom had studied eternal life. The sorcerer victimized the citizens in order to test his skill. Tarim and Daymiar tried to stop him, but they couldn't kill him, because Halciform had made a contract with a Mazoku to be immortal. Tarim asked Lina to destroy Halciform, but then the white sorcerer entered and destroyed the head of Tarim.

Lina and Gourry run away from the basement, and met a woman upstairs. She was Rubia, Halcifom's assistant. She knew what her master did, and she wanted to stop him. They searched for the "contract stone" of Halcifom. If they could find it out and destroy it, Halcifom wouldn't be immortal any longer.

Lina and Gourry found an orb and destroy it, but it wasn't the "contract stone". Lina noticed that Seigram the Faceless turned away from the Fireball. A Mazoku couldn't be harmed by fire. Why had Seigram turned away? The Fireball couldn't hurt him... Lina realized that the mask of Seigram was the "contract stone" and she broke it.

Halcifom wasn't immortal any more, but he had eaten Gio Gaea in order to get its power. He said he would eat Lina to get her power as well. But Rubia killed Halcifom with the sword of light.
