In Vezendi, they found out that a rich merchant, by the name of Ladock Lanzard, was searching for Lina. They visited Ladock, but Zel wanted to avoid revealing his face to the ordinary man and he stayed in the inn. Ladock was threatened by Zooma into hiring Lina as well. Lina said that Ladock himself must be Zooma's target. The assassin was eager to get his revenge upon Lina, so he used Ladock to invite her into his trap.

    Lina and her partners (except Zel) were hired by Ladock as guards, but Abel, the son of Ladock, disliked them and tried to make go away. Ladock and Abel had a terrible quarrel everyday.

    Lina, Gourry and Ameria went out on the town and visited Zelgadiss. When they went down to the dining room, they were trapped in a magical force field and attacked by a few Mazoku -- Seigram the Faceless, Guduza and Dugrdo. Dugrdo had a head of big black egg, Guduza spoke in a old woman's voice and had long black hair. Zelgadiss fought with Dugrudo, and Ameria with Guduza. Zelgadiss revealed a new spell, Astral Vine --- this spell charged his magical power into his sword. Dugrdo made many many magical bullets and threw them at Zel. Amelia's left arm was broken by Guduza. Lina and Gourry fought together with Seigram, but the faceless demon was much stronger than before. Lina and her friends were all in danger, but Lina used her Demon Bloods and succeeded in breaking the shield. All three demons run away.

    The next night, Lina was attacked by Zooma. But soon, the men and women in the house were all awaken, and the assassin ran away. Abel got angry, because he suspected that Lina had taken advantage of Zooma's attacks to gain employment with his father. Abel insisted that Lina and her party leave his house, but Ladock got furious with Abel; he was afraid of being attacked by an assassin!.

    Ladock couldn't stand the situation any longer. He said he would go out on his business, but Lina knew what he was thinking. If he went out, Lina and the rest would go with him as guards. The assassin Zooma could attack Lina much easier outside than when she stayed in Ladock's house. Ladock's plan was to force Lina to confront and finish Zooma, as he hoped to see the end of the threat as soon as possible. Abel said he would go with his father. Lina invited Zel to join them.

    On their way, they were attacked by a group of bandits, and the carriage on which Ladock, Abel and Raltark rode was forced to keep driving, leaving its escort behind. Lina chased after the carriage with the flying spell Raywing. She fell into an ambush of lesser demons and defeated them. When she begun her chase again, she found Abel, and Raltark soon after. The butler told Lina that the assassin had taken Larock away and left her a message. Zooma ordered the rest to stay back --- he only wanted to fight Lina and Gourry.

    Lina and Gourry went to the log cabin on the hill. There they found only Ladock, but Zooma wasn't there. As they wondered where the assassin had gone, Abel came in the cabin, against the wishes of Zooma. Ameria, Zelgadiss, Xelloss and Raltark arrived after Abel. Suddenly Guduza and Dugrdo appeared before them. Dugrdo told Raltark to start the farewell party and Raltark spoke a spell that turned small animals into lesser demons. Soon, Lina and the others were surrounded by a few dozen lesser demons.

    Lesser demons shot hundreds of Flare Arrows at them. Zelgadiss cast Astral Vine again and defeated lesser demons, but he was then confronted by Dugrdo again. Ameria charged her magical power into her fists with the spell Visfarank and knocked down the Flare Arrows with her bare hands! Zel gave serious damage to Dugrdo, weakening it, so Dugrdo killed a lesser demon and Guduza in order to recover its power, eating their death agony and anger. However, it wasn't enough to recover its power, and Zel destroyed Dugrdo with another blow of his sword.

    Finally, the assassin Zooma revealed himself to Lina and Gourry. In the battle, Zooma used powerful spells and knocked Gourry down. Lina found out that Zooma had united himself with Seigram the Faceless. Seigram said it had lost its existence as a demon in order to take its revenge upon Lina and Gourry. Zooma the human also wanted revenge, but Abel, inturrpted, crying out "No more killing, father!".

    Zooma was actually Ladock. This half-human and half-demon fought one final battle with Lina. She killed him with the Ragna Blade. Lina and her comrades brought Abel back home, and after that they started heading towards Dills again.

    In the first night of their new journey, Lina talked with Xelloss in secret. She said that she knew Xelloss was a Mazoku, and asked him about his purpose. Xelloss explained that he had a duty to protect and guide her. He said he would take her to the Dilss Kingdom and to the Clare Bible.
