Where and when does his manga take place in the whole Slayers story?

        (Revised Sept. 10th 2004) In the March issue of monethly Dragon Age magazine, they introduced the interview with the creators of Slayers : Knight of Aqualord manga. In it, they explained the position of this manga in the whole Slayers stories. Before I introduce the interview, let me explain about the positions of each Slayers stuff.

In this story, Lina and Gourry fight against Sherra, the general of Dynast Grawsheller, then against Dynast, and finally fight against another resurrected piece of Ruby Eye. Gourry got the Blast Sword in Solaria, and Lina lost Demon Blood talismans in the battle against the dark lord.		Slayers TRY
Lina and the gangs go out to the place outside of Mazoku's Barrier, and fight against Dark Star Dugradigudo. In the beginning of this story Gourry has the Sword of Light and loses it in the end. There are other four weapons of light.		Knight of Aqualord
Lina and Gourry go to the place outside of the Mazoku's Barrier and met with a boy who has the power of Aqualord. From the beginning, Gourry doesn't have the Sword of Light and Lina doesn't have Demon Blood talismans.		Super Famicon game Slayers
In the beginning, Lina found unconscious and she doesn't have Demon Blood talismans. As the story goes, Lina fights against Xelloss, and then against Greater Beast Zellas Mettalium. At the final stage, she fights against the Demon King of the North. Gourry appeares with the Blast Sword.
  This list doesn't have the novel spin-offs, manga Slayers Premium, PC game and TV games for Play Station and Sega Saturn. It is because those stuff aren't important in the consideration about the timeline of the main story.

        We call the stuff of the cell with n background, namely, Slayers book 1 to 8, as "the first part of Slayers". The stuff of the cell with n background are regarded as the anime version and manga version of "the main story part 1". And there are four storylines which take place after "the main story part 1". Probably, we could call all of them as "the second part of Slayers", however, we treat only one of them as "the second part of Slayers." It is the stuff of the cell with n background, namely Slayers novels book 9 to 15. The other suff are treated as "the third part of Slayers". Probably, it is because that we have respect for the novels series.


Interview with the creators of Knight of Aqualord


Q.: Please explain the position of this manga in the whole Slayers stories.
Mr. Kanzaka : I had an idea for a Slayers computer game. Knight of Aqualord is based on this idea, and we can say that this manga is another third part of the main story of Slayers along with Slayers Super Famicon game and Slayers TRY. In them characters act in three different pararell worlds to the main story of Slayers novels.

Q.: Have you been inspired by anything in your creating the design of each new characters?
Mr. Araizumi : No. I know that some of you think that I'm telling a lie, since some characters seem to be slimilar to the characters in some old anime or manga. Let me explain. I always make design of characters with my first idea after I read the plan for them. I began to draw illustrations being inspired by manga and anime by many great creaters, thus I say that I have been inspired by all of my favorite anime and manga.

Q.: Please tell us how you have challenged in drawing Knight of Aqualord and how you will challenge in working on this manga.
Mr. Otsuka : Drawing Lyos is a challenge for me. Different from other characters in Slayers, Lyos is growing in the story. In other words, Lyos is a great talent in making. I think that it's a challenge for me to draw him growing in this manga as perfect as I can.

Q.: What are the difficulties for you in creating Knight of Aqualord?
Mr. Kanzaka : As I told before, this manga is based on my idea for a computer game. In any games, any powerful monsters can be defeated, because the main characters will grow up or become more powerful in the story of the game. Only you have to do is to let them fight, fight, use magic, be cured... so on. However, in a manga, such patterns are boring. So, I have to make more interesting storyline of this manga, and it is very hard for me.

Mr. Araizumi : There were the throes of creation. I had clear imaginations of the characters, however, I couldn't draw them by my pencil. Sometimes, what I drew became much better than what I had imagined, therefore, difficulties is a pleasure for me. In other words, I didn't feel difficult in creating designs. Oh, I have one difficulty... "time". :)

Mr. Otsuka : I feel it's a hard work for me to draw a Slayers manga which takes place in the outer world to the familiar Slayers world. I have to draw scenery different from usual Slayers world without making readers feel something wrong. Anyway, Lina and the gangs are the same in anywhere. They help me a lot. :)

Q.: Please give your messages to the readers of monthly Dragon Age.
Mr. Kanzaka : As I have talked, I have no idea about how this manga will end. We, the creators, don't know what will go on. Please keep reading Knight of Aqualord.

Mr. Araizumi : Lyos' journey continues, and he is growing in his journey... How Lina and others relate with his growth and journey? There are new characters waiting for to come! I have one very good design for a character, and I'm waiting for his entering! The more you read, the more you enjoy! Please wait for the further episodes of Knight of Aqualord!

Mr. Otsuka : I supposed that the storyline of this manga will unfold dramatically within several episodes since this month (March 2004). This new sotyline may be a door to the next stage where Lina and others will face to severe fate. Please don't miss it! You'd better to learn about the world of Slayers to enjoy this manga, so please read Slayers novels and the comic books of Knight of Aqualord.
