* Legacy Audio driver for YAMAHA PCI sound cards

DOWNLOAD

The time has come...

Recent Linux kernel contains native PCI driver for YMF7xx chips.
You should use these driver other than my legacy driver.

About ymfsb

This code enables you to use your

  • YMF724[A-F]
  • YMF740[A-C]
  • YMF744
  • YMF754

chips based cards in Linux operating system . These chips are shipped from YAMAHA and cards containing these chips are sold in low price (about $10 - $90 in Japan ).
With this driver, your card will act as "SoundBlaster Pro" compatible card. It can only play 22.05kHz / 8bit / Stereo samples, control external MIDI port.
If you want to use your card as recent "16-bit" card, you should get Alsa or OSS/Linux driver. Ofcource you can write native DS-XG driver for your cards :)

This code references YAMAHA's sample codes and data sheets.
I respect and thank for all people they made open the informations about YMF7xx cards.

And this codes heavily based on Jeff Garzik <jgarzik@pobox.com>'s VIA 82Cxxx driver (via82cxxx.c). I also thanks him.

Current status

  • This driver is module of OSS/Free.
  • Download firmwares and initializes the chip
  • Play samples (SBPro compatible : 22.05kHz, 8bit, stereo)
  • Send MIDI messages via external MIDI port
  • Set AC'97 mixers
  • Set Legacy I/O ports (sb, synth, mpu)
  • Enables SPDIF-out (Fs is fixed to 48kHz by hardware)

Licence

GPL2

Disclimer

When the native DS-XG driver is available (from alsa, OSS, or else), this code will have to be expired.
