昨年までNew York Yankeesに所属していたDavid Wells は、

Boston Red Sox のNomar Garciaparraがケガから復帰し、

Red Sox のベテラン knuckleballer Tim Wakefield が、昨年の
プレーオフでAaron Booneにサヨナラホームランを打たれて以来の
