■Today's sentences
A-Rod smoked the pitch to left-center, as
it bounced over
the fence for a double. Cairo scored on the play, tying
the game. After intentionally walking Sheffield, the Twins
brought in J.C. Romero to face Matsui, who hit the first
pitch to shallow right, where Jacque Jones caught it.
As Jeter tagged up, Jacque Jones fired to Matthew LeCroy
cutting off from first base. Jeter slid home safely ahead
of LeCroy's relay to the plate, capping the comeback win.

■Translation

Romeroをマウンドに送った。Matsuiはその初球をライトの浅いと
ころに運び、Jacque Jones（Twinsの右翼手）がそれを捕球。
Jeterがタッチアップし、Jacque Jones からの返球をMatthew
LeCroy（Twins の一塁手）がホームへ中継するも、Jeter の
スライディングが早く、（Yankeesが）逆転勝ちを収めた。

◆下記のような場合はtheをつけます。

（主語は打球）ワンバウンドでフェンスを越える

4. to score：
３通りの主語が考えられますのでそれぞれ例文で確認
してください。

(２) to score a run / to score 〜 runs：
＜打者が＞打点をあげる
[例文]

（Matsuiは犠牲フライで、その回の２点目をたたき出した。）
(３) to score：(自動詞で)
＜走者が＞生還する
[例文]
Jeter scored on a sac fly by Matsui.
（Jeter が Matsuiの犠牲フライで生還した。）
5. to intentionally walk 〜／to walk 〜 intentionally：
（チームや投手を主語にして）〜（相手打者が入ります）に
敬遠の四球を与える

to give 〜 an intentional walk
6. to bring in 〜：（チームか監督を主語にして）
〜（リリーフ投手が入りますをリリーフとしてマウンドに送る
[例文]
Torre brought in Mariano Rivera to face Manny Ramirez.
（Torre監督はManny Ramirezとの対戦に、Mariano Riveraを
リリーフとしてマウンドに送った。）
7. to tag up：タッチアップする
＊タッチアップは和製英語です。
8. to cut off：（内野手が）外野手からのホームへの返球を
カットする
