＊野球英語というよりはビジネス英語でよく使われるフレーズ
ですが、ヘッドラインのcorner にクオーテーションマーク
('')がついてるのは、double meaningになってるためです。
今回注目のフリーエージェントの大砲を２人とも獲得した
Marinersは、まさに"ちから"市場を買い占めたかたち。
その２人の大砲、Sexsonは一塁手、Beltreは三塁手。
"put runners on the corners"といえば一塁・三塁
に走者を置く、というように、野球用語でcornersは

"to duke it out"で、意味は"とことんまで殴る、相手をボコボコに
殴る"。それではなぜ "duke"が"duque"になっているのかというと、
その日のYankeesの先発投手、Orlando Hernandezのニックネーム
"El Duque"に引っ掛けていたのです。
