Hi Kristin,
It's Tomoko. I got back home an hour ago. I showed my works to my parents and they were
just amazed !
Now I'm going to bed, but before that, I have something to tell you thank you so very much
Kristin!! I don't know how to describe by words, but I'm just happy. I had such a
wonderful time. I think I am fortunate to get to join this workshop.
As a matter of fact, I found an amazing fact through this course.
It was the day before yesterday, I was on my way back home after this workshop. I was on a
train, seated, then I looked up, there were straps
(tsurikawa) as usual in a line. But then I suddenly noticed that every single strap looked
different : they are identical, but they all have different light & shade. And I
wasn't paying attention to these boring straps before, but I found they consisted of
beautiful line & shape. ( I didn't even noticed before that there were not only round
straps but also triangle ones in one car.)
I was very surprised to find that every single thing has light & shade.
Next to light, there's shade. Next to shade, there's light. They're backing up for each
other. ---that's really like our lives, don't you think? After "shade"period,
"light"surely comes, and vice versa. ( And I prefer a"light &
shade" life to a flat one. ) --Thanks to shade,
we can appreciate light. We need both.
And one more thing I found : you can't see exactly the same thing again. Imagine you are
with a friend, you two look at one tree, that means you are looking at the SAME tree, but
actually different. Because where you are standing is different.( As you told us in the
workshop.)
And maybe your friend is taller/shorter than you, So each of you are seeing
a DIFFERENT tree(--line, shape, light, shade, everything's slightly different). And the
sunshine might be stronger in summer than in winter, so the light changes. So does shade.
Even sunny/cloudy/rainy days make a big difference.
So what I means is that every sight we see, everything we encounter is all unique,
"one and only" thing in this world, in your life. You won't be able to see
EXACTLY the same thing again. That's why everything is precious. Oh, life's getting
exciting ! So wonderful !!
Finally, I am very impressed by your wonderful talent to make everybody feel really easy,
relaxed, fear-free and very warm. The atmosphere of the class was really nice. Thank you!!
And I'm very glad to get to know the wonderful people. It's surprising we got close in
only 5 days!
I'm really hoping to join the workshop in November. I have to see my schedule, I'll email
you soon when I decide.
Now I have to sleep. Please say hi to Yoshiko-san.

Hello Everyone ! How was your summer? I was busy teaching workshops
in Hong Kong and Oregon. You can see some results of the children's classes in Hong Kong
and soon we'll have some examples from Oregon. That workshop was at a Montessori School.
Kids everywhere love to draw, and they learn so quickly. Adults take longer because they
worry more, but kids just jump right in. I taught a 3-day adult workshop at a financial
company in Hong Kong, too. Everyone seemed pleased to see the benefits of using their
right brain, as well as their left.
Autumn will be very busy, too. In addition to the
regular workshop at the beginning of October, on October 25th, there will be a lecture for
a group of junior high school teachers in Kyushu, and on Octber 17th, a special workshop
as part of a month long event at Shomyouji Temple in Kanagawa Prefecture.
In November, Dr. Betty Edwards' son, Brian
Bomeisler, will be coming to Tokyo to give two workshops. One will be the latest version
of "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain"workshop, which is a new development,
using new tools which Dr. Edwards has just developed in conjunction with her new book and
video. The other workshop is "Drawing on the Artist Within", a creativity and
problem solving workshop based on Dr. Edwards' second book of the same name. It's usually
taught as in house trainings for corporations, so this is a rare occasion for the general
public to participate.
The other day I received a phone call from former
student, William Broder, who is now living in Colorado. He had just met Betty Edwards in
Denver at a book signing event for her new book. He was so excited.
Well, talk to you later. I hope you all have a
productive autumn !
Warm regards,
Kristin
