The Shoso-in Treasure
y Silk Brocade z Width, about 56.7cm
This one is what is called a weft-patterned
brocade whose green ground and yellow
patterns are effected by wefts. The main
motif is a rounded pattern featuring
hunting scenes, rams facing under a tree
and running stags with grapevine scrolls
and
pearl rings. The subordinate motif is a
diamond-shaped vine-scroll composed of lions
and
birds. This piece is rich in western influence,
and it shows the international
character of the culture of the Nara Period.
