y Omikuji [ Fortunes ] z

Omikuji [Fortune-telling slip] simplifies god's or Buddha's will. If we want to know it through Shinto priests or Buddhist monks, we have to reward them with a suitable amount of money. However, this slip lets us know our fortune easily.

General fortune from excellent luck to bad luck is written in Omikuji. we can see individual fortunes such as fortune of marriage, journey, illness, business transactions, agricultural products, entrance exams and so forth.

In general, the majority of slips, are e DaikichiforeKichif, which means excellent or happy, and 30“eKyof, which are bad luck. The rest are not so bad. Since they are important sources of income as well as popularity, the ratio of eKichifand eKyofchanges from shrine to shrine, or from temple to temple. When we draw slips which suggest misfortune, we tie them to branches of trees and leave them there. This custom reflects our attitude to god and Buddha, that is to say, we entrust our fortune to them.
