y Religion z

The principal religion on Japan are Shinto, Buddhism and Christianity. Shinto can be described as a naturalistic religion which glew out of the daily life of common Japanese people during primitive times. But Shinto was refind later by the in fluence of Buddhism and Confucianism.

When it comes to religious belief, most Japanese are tolerant, and do not think it strange tobe involved simultaneously in several religions. When religions came in from foreign countries, the Japanese could easily accept them, because of the polytheistic nature of Shinto.

Birth and wedding ceremonies for most Japanese people are Shinto, while funerals are Buddhist.

The Japanese constitution guarantees religious freedom. Therefore there is no state religion. Religious instruction is forbidden at public schools.
