training at first, but they began to indulge
in luxury later. Gautama thought they
had to reflect on their imprudence, and disciples
confessed in the presence of others
on the 15th and 30th days of every month.
Someone began to use a string of nuts to
know when the next confessional day would
be. It is said this was the origin of the
rosary.
