y Dyed Leather Ceremonial Shoes z Length31.5
cm, height 14.3 cm
These low shoes curve up at the toes into
two squred tips. There is no shape distinction
between the left and right shoes.
The soles and uppers are constructed from
madder-dyed hide and lined with undyed white
hide.
The uppers and curved sections of the soles
are embelished with ornaments inlaid with
pearls, glass beads, and crystals.
These shoes are thought to have been worn
by Emperor Shomu for the Consecration Ceremony
of the Great Buddha.
