y The Tamuke-yama Hachimagu Shrine z

In building the Great Buddha image of Todai-ji, they brought this Hachimangu from Usa of Oita prefecture in 749 as a guardian. It is not sure where they put it in those days.

Later, it was settled on the east side of Kagami pond near the Great Buddha Hall. This shrine has protected the Todai-ji Temple since then.

It once burnt down in 1180, and in 1250 the existing shrine was built on its present site by Hojo-Tokiyori.
