JR West developed 207 series used on a
commuter train of JR Tohzai Line. Prototype of 207 series was delivered in
1991. 207 series have adopted VVVF inverter control system for the first time
among trains built by JR West. This inverter control unit has adopted 3-step
control, which used the power transistor for the first time in Japan, in
order to reducing the noise when the train is increasing or decreasing speed.
Since current capacity of the power transistor is low, this inverter unit
controls on truck basis, unlike the conventional inverter unit. Although some
motored cars, Moha207, are fitted with the inverter unit, the auxiliary power
supply, and the air, the other motored cars, Moha206, are not fitted with
an auxiliary power supply, a compressor, and current collectors. Moha206
are used together with Moha207 and electric power is supplied from Moha207.
Moha207 are equipped with two current collectors that give steady current
collection from rigid conductor line. Maximum service speed is 120 km/h.
Bodies are constructed of stainless steel and become 2950mm wide for the
first time among JR commuter trains to make passenger room large.
207 series are equipped with semi-automatic side doors, in consideration
of use in the Kosei line. Passengers can open or close doors manually by
pushing buttons such as 221 series. Passenger
accommodation is changed into the long seating on the basis of 221 series,
and 207 series are equipped with an attractive design and accommodation against
the private railway trains.
Although the mass-production cars appeared at the end of the year 1991,
they are changed into 4-car or 3-car formation from 7-car formation of pre-production
cars. Some end cars are equipped with the automatic jumper coupler in order
to couple/uncouple formations easily, and are classified into -100 sub-type.
In addition, since the motored car of 207-1000
series will be coupled with 3-car formation of a 207-0 series in 1996,
Moha207-0 used together with Moha207-1000 are classified into -500 sub-type.
207 series trains were gradually repainted into a new livery like 321 series trains from 2005 and then completed in 2006.
Now, 207-0 series are used on local services of JR Kyoto line,
JR Kobe line, JR Takarazuka line0, JR Tohzai line, and the Gakken-toshi
line. |
