Akiyoshi-dai area

Akiyoshi-dai Akiyoshi-dai, the largest limestone plateau in Japan, is located in the central part of the Yamaguchi Prefecture, southwest Japan. Typical karst topographies such as pits, dolines and karrenfeld are found on this plateau. In addition, there is the Akiyoshi-do Cave, the biggest cave in Japan. The cave is a famous sightseeing spot, and a lot of tourists visit Akiyoshi-do Cave annually. About 400 caves ("Ana" is local term for cave in the Akiyoshi-dai) have been investigated to Akiyoshi-dai, but there are many caves which are not investigated yet. Many cavers visit here to investigate and explore the caves.
