LOCATION:

  • Central Highland of Costa Rica.

ACCESS:

  • By bus from San Jose to Canon, takes about 2 hours.
  • From Canon to Savegre Lodge by car arranged by the lodge.

ACCOMMODATION:

  • There are some accommodations along the Savegre river.
  • Especially, Savegre Lodge is one of the best place in Costa Rica to see the Resplendent Quetzal. They have a private reserve for the Quetzals.>

BIRDS:

  • This area (Cerro La Muerte) is one of the best place for bird watching in Costa Rica. I think this place is better than Monte Verde, because not so many bird watchers come to this area.
  • More than 150 spices of mountain birds are observed in the reserve. For example; Green Violet-ear, Magnificent Hummingbird, Gray-throated Mountain-gem, Purple-throated Mountain-gem, Scintillant Hummingbird, Resplendent Quetzal, Acorn Woodpecker, Tufted Flycatcher, Emerald Toucanet, Torrent Tyrannulet, Long-tailed Silky-flycatcher, Three-striped Warbler, Flame-throated Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, Wilson's Warbler, Collared Redstart, Blue-hooded Euphonia, Sooty-capped Bush-Tanager, Spangled-cheeked Tanager, Flame-colored Tanager, Slaty Flowerpiercer, etc.
  • Lots of hummingbirds are observed around nectar feeder at the garden in the lodge.
