Outline of the Equestrian World in Japan
[Prewar]
The forerunner of the Japan equestrian Federation can be traced to 1921,or,77 years ago,
when the Japan Equestrian Association was inaugurated and, at the FEI inaugural General
Assembly held in Paris on November 24 of the same year, it became a member along with Belgium,
Denmark, France, Italy, Norway, Sweden and United States of America.
Later,after,a number of transitions, it was renamed the Japan Equestrian Federation in 1948 and
this neme has continued to the president day.
[Postwar,present]
The Japan Equestrian Federation is the controlling body for equestrian competitons with,at president,
about 6,000 members and 4,000 registered horses, holds jumping and dressage competitons, eventing and
conducts the composition, competitiveness development and sending abroad of Japanese teams and conducts
other activities including popularizing equestrian sports and equestrian affairs.
THe Japan Equestrian Federation has under its wing, branch organizations in each of the perfectures and,
further, it has affiliated organizations which are the All Japan University Assiciation (2,200 members),
the Japanese Business Group Equestrian Federation (3,000 members), the All Japan High School Association
(800 members), the All Japan Youth Group Riding Association and conducts instruction and other popularization
activities for what is said to number some 300,000 non-member enthusiastic followwes of the sport.
At the All Japan Championship held each year in Japan,riders and horses which have won the zonal preliminaries
vie for the laurels in principally 3 kings of competitions which equestrian riders from all social strata
participate.
The affiliated organizations of the Japan Equestrian Federation ,the All Japan University Association
(university students), the All Japan High School Association (senior high school students), the Japanese Bissiness
Group Equestrian Federation (members of society) and the All Japan Youth Group RidingAssociation (young boys and girls),
each conducts its own competition activities.
Each year, over 300, or,more,small and large scale equestrian competitions are held. Of our country's registered competiton
horses, 20% of 4,000 horses, are imported from Australia, Newzieland and U.S.A. And, other horses are home-bred Throughbreds
and Anglo-Arabs which are converted race-horse which have been retired from Horse Racing.
The breeding of riding horses are also conducted and, recently,voices have been raised for systematic breeding planning.Further,
experimentel trials for endurance competition have just begun.
