Tax Deductibility
All donations to the Jason Choy Memorial Scholarship
are tax deductible and will go directly to Eleanor
Roosevelt High School, a public high school that qualifies
for federal tax exemption as an arm of the government
of Prince George's County, Maryland.
Administrative Fees
The organizers of the Jason Choy Scholarship Fund
are working on a volunteer basis and do not receive
any compensation for their work. We are, however,
using a fee-based online service to help administer
the scholarship and to collect funds, and there are
a few things that you, as a potential donor, might
like to know:
- Donations are being collected through Acteva.com,
a for-profit corporation that provides online solutions
for event organizers.
- Acteva will take a small percentage of all donations,
ranging from roughly 3% to 8%, depending on the
size of the donation, to cover administrative costs.
- In addition, as with all credit card charitable
donations, credit card donations to the Jason Choy
Scholarship are subject to fees charged by the credit
card providers. Visa, MasterCard and Discover Card
will take 2.5% and American Express will take 3.5%
of donated amounts.
- Donations made by check are subject only to Acteva
fees.
- The organizers have no relationship with Acteva.
- Detailed information on Acteva’s privacy policies
can be found here.
The bottom line is that roughly $9 out of every
$10 donated WILL go directly towards providing a scholarship
to a deserving ERHS senior. Total fees paid to Acteva
and the credit card providers will vary depending
on the sizes of donations, but WILL NOT exceed 13.5%.
