今は亡きGrateful Deadの初めてのNew
Yorkライブで共演したほどの長いキャリアを
持ち、Deadheadsの間ではJerry Garcia
Bandのバックコーラスとしても知られてい
る。1969年にフランク・ザッパに見初められ、マザーズのイアン・アンダーウッド
のプロデュースによって、サンディ・ハーヴィッツとしてSandy's
Album Is At
Last!をリリース。その後エスラ・モホークと改名して、'74年に「エスラ・モホー
ク」と'76年に「エスラ」をリリース。
ソングライターとしても、Syndy Lauperの"Change Of
Heart"をはじめ、古くは
Vanila Fudge,Tina
Tuner,などにも楽曲を提供し、幅広く活動している。

*Worked with Bob Weir for his
"Bobby and the Midnites" album and wrote the song "Haze"
that Bob Weir sings.
* Essra was the opening act for The
Grateful Dead the first time they played
in New York City and they have been
friends ever since.
Essra was "Uncle Meat" in Frank
Zappa's Mothers of Invention. And her
album "Sandy's Album is Here at
Last" on Frank's label is a classic.
Essra's 1970 album "Primordial Lovers" was declared by
Rolling Stone
Magazine in 1976 to be "one of the
top 25 albums of all time"!
Essra's songs have been recorded by
Tina Turner, Keb' Mo', Cyndi Lauper,
Vanilla Fudge, The Shagri La's,
Rita Coolidge, Peabo Bryson, and many others.
The music of Laura Nyro; Crosby,
Stills, & Nash; and Joni Mitchel were all
influenced BY ESSRA.
