My areas of expertise include political economy of food and agriculture
in the context of globalization and localization. Especially, I'm now researching
on political and socio-economic issues which are surrounding as well as
caused by industrialization of agricultural biotechnology.
My research field is, of course, mainly in Japan. But, under globalization
of political economy, we should not limit ourselves to research on each
nation-state. I'm now trying to "globalize" myself so as to catch
up with globalization of agro-food system. I am a member of; International
Sociological Association (Research Committee of Agriculture and Food),
Rural Sociological Society (North America), and Agriculture, Food, and
Human Value Society. So far, I've conducted some international field research,
including the USA, the Netherlands, the UK, South Korea, China, Argentina,
and Brazil.
My research subjects during stay in Wageningen University were as follows:
i) participant observation of interdisciplinary program for agricultural
technology research & education, ii) research on the realities of the
"appropriate biotechnologies" under the public-private shift,
and iii) research on the policy-making process in OECD, EU and the United
Nation (FAO), especially for agro-biotechnology regulation.
On this website, some of my papers are available both in Japanese and English.
Have a nice tour of my website! Thank you!!
