| Natural colonies of swarm gathering around C.devonianum and MISS MUFFET |
Plants take various ways and means to get insects carry the pollen. For example, Magnoria obovata lures insects by giving them pollen to eat. Many flowers, such as Fatsia japonica, entice insects by secreting honey. However, there are some insects being attracted to flowers in spite of nothing to gains. This is the way by which KINRYOUHENs lure insects. KINRYOUHENs make good use of honeybees as pollen carriers but give them nothing in return. Furthermore, KINRYOUHENs attract drones, which usually do not carry pollen. And finally, they get surrounded by a whole colony of honeybees. Now, it must be appropriate to think that gathering a whole colony is the ultimate aim rather than using honeybees as pollen carriers.
I think as follows. KINRYOUHENs obtain heat, which required in the process of fertilization following pollination, by getting a large number of honeybees together around themselves. It is unnatural that KINRYOUHEN is the only plant which takes strategy like this while so many kinds of plants live on the earth. I think there must be other plants taking the same strategy, if it has been working well. Therefore, it is important to have found that C.devonianum also attracts the swarms.
