Natural nest of Japanese Honeybees
Home|Part1|Part2|Part3
In Osaka Pref., where I am carrying out my research, Japanese honeybees make nest in the loft of the house, under the floor, cave in the wood and in the grave space.
The entrance of the nest is less than 1cm wide, facing east, west, south or north. The height of the entrance ranges from just on the ground to 5meters high on the tree. The size of the nest depends on the condition of the place. If there is plenty of space, they make large ones. Compared to western honeybee, Japanese honeybee has wider range of the size.
In urban area, I usually can find 1 nest / 1km sq. But sometimes I find many nests even in smaller area.
