o He is Taiwanese Japanese (Born in Tokyo. His father is Chinese and his mother was Japanese).

o In 1977, breaking Hank Aaron's record, he was presented the People's Honor Award (also known as the National Honor Award or the National Medal of Honor). He is the first winner of the Award!

o His surname "Oh" ("Wang" or "Wong" in Chinese) means "King"!!

o Being an active player as the first baseman, his nickname among team mates is "Wann-chann" (like "Wanie" in English) from Chinese pronunciation of his name and his player's number: "One".

o His father was an illegal immigrant from China, did his best, and succeeded as the owner of little Chinese restaurants.
