Kan-Iku
Environmental Awareness Group

We think about nature and relationships between people.
We want to
know more, think more, do more, and enjoy all of these together.
It is Our Style.

This group doesn't have any membership fees.
Anyone is welcome in this is a group.

We participate in the following activities.

Rice farming in a TANADA
We grow rice plants in terraced rice paddies in the mountains.

Rice farming has been done for a long time.
The rice field was left dormant for about ten years.
Now we return to the TANADA every year.

The rice we plant is organic, no chemicals are used,
and it is planted by hand.
We try to use as little fossil fuels as possible.

Forest Volunteers

We help to clear

the forest environment
Neglected ceder and cypress forests of dead and unhealthy trees
are causing erosion and hampering the growth of healthy forests.
This not only breaks the mountain.
Also there is a problem in getting wood ..saving water...to us.

Unfortunately, the Japanese import a lot of wood from other countries
Because it is cheap and easy to use.
We should lower the amount of wood we import, and use more local wood.
This will benefit both Japan and foreign countries.

We want to create awareness of these issues through our activities.

Workshops
We have workshops to discuss various issues,
with a different lecturer invited each time.
We meet every third Thursday of the month
from 18:30 - 21:00 at the Riverain Office Site (10F Kokoron Center).
The meeting is held in Japanese.

Other

For example workshops on how to make solar-cookers.
and
We do Wild bird and Wetland protection activities in WAJIRO, Hakata Bay.
You can see scarce birds such as the Black-faced Spoonbill in Hakata Bay.
