Kaori Sion graduated from the High School affiliated to the Tokyo University of Music and Fine Arts in 1981,completed her under-graduate studies at the same institution in 1984,and then went on to complete post-graduate studies there.
While still a high-school student Ms Sion went to Europe to take part in a master course given by M. Moyse, and made a recording for broadcast in Switzerland.
In 1979 and 1981, Ms Sion took part in NHK auditions and was selected to give both solo and chamber music performances, and has since given many performances both on radio and television.
Programs she has taken part in include "Afternoon Recital", "Modern Music Time" and "FM Recital" for NHK FM, and "Classic Hour" for Tokyo Television.
Since 1985, Ms Sion has regularly given concerts in countries such as France, Germany, Italy, America, Russia,Taiwan and Australia, her recital at the Unesco Hall in Paris was recorded and released on CD.
And in 2002 she took part in the International Harp Congress in Geneva.
In Japan, Ms Sion has given a large number of highly acclaimed concerts in all the most important venues both in Tokyo and throughout the country.
Ms Sion was also invited to give play for Emperor Hirohito at the Imperial Palace.
Original CDs include "Ave Maria" and "Rigoletto Fantasy" (both of which were short-listed for the Record Geijutsu Recording of the Year prize in 1994), and "Flute Meditation" and new CD named "Voice".
At present Ms Sion is teaching at the Bunka Gakuin and MFLC, is the leader of the "Amiche" quartet, and is concert master of the "Musica Fiore" flute orchestra.
