Q. What is "aigamo-mai"?
A. "Aigamo-mai", literally
means duck rice, is rice grown up practicing
integrated rice-duck cultivation method.
According to a standard set by the Japan
Rice-Duck Farming Society, "aigamo-mai"
label should not be used unless producers
produce duck rice observing its standard
for continuous three years or more. (We have
been observing this standard since 1993.)
Rice produced from land being managed for
two years or less is called as "aigamo-mai
no tamago" (eggs of duck rice).

Q. Why did you start rice-duck
cultivation?
A. Before I practiced rice-duck
cultivation, I was producing tomatoes. Tomatoes
were very profitable, but that was at the
sacrifice of my own health because I had
to use pesticide many times. One day, I became
sick for unknown reasons and had to stay
in a hospital for four days. This was an
opportunity to bring the future of myself
and environment home to me.
