FAQ

Q.  What is "aigamo-mai"?
A.  "Aigamo-mai", literally means duck rice, is rice grown up practicing integrated rice-duck cultivation method. According to a standard set by the Japan Rice-Duck Farming Society, "aigamo-mai" label should not be used unless producers produce duck rice observing its standard for continuous three years or more. (We have been observing this standard since 1993.) Rice produced from land being managed for two years or less is called as "aigamo-mai no tamago" (eggs of duck rice).

Q.  Why did you start rice-duck cultivation?
A.  Before I practiced rice-duck cultivation, I was producing tomatoes. Tomatoes were very profitable, but that was at the sacrifice of my own health because I had to use pesticide many times. One day, I became sick for unknown reasons and had to stay in a hospital for four days. This was an opportunity to bring the future of myself and environment home to me.

Q.  How many ducks do you release?
A.  We release ducks at a density of about 10 ducks per 0.2 acre.

Q.  May I visit the paddy?
A.  Yes! If you wish to visit us, please kindly send an e-mail and let us know in advance. You can see ducks swimming in the paddy from the end of May until the end of July.

Q.  Is there a minimum order amount?
A.  Yes, we have a minimum order of 5 kg (about 11 lb.)

Q.  Do you deliver?
A.  Yes, we arrange door-to-door courier service. You can specify delivery date and time.

Q.  What's the cost of "aigamo-mai" per meal?
A.  Cost per meal (0.2 lb.) is 110 yen for "aigamo-mai" and for 77 yen for less pesticide rice.
