キナシベツは、北海道の東側、釧路湿原国立公園から西に約50kmのところにあります。そこには、奥深い森林と平地に広がる牧草地、そして海岸に面した低層湿原などが大規模な開発をされることなく残っています。また、ごく身近な動植物の生息環境としても、貴重な地域になっています。
