Masahiro, who was a Godzilla maniac in life, was killed by a sudden accident July 24, 1997 when he was only 18 years old. At present, he has often sent messages to his mother from the spiritual world. There’s a place where the spirits can see movies at the Tower of Art of the Avalokitesvara division in the spiritual world. There’re also recorded Godzilla movies in it, and there Masahiro met Mr. Eiji Tsuburaya, a director of special effects, who had been involved in filmmaking in life.

One day in July, 1997, Masahiro, who was 18 years old, was having a nightmare every night. He had been suffered with the dream that Godzilla was dying by self-destruction in the fight against Destroyer in the movie, “Dying Godzilla,” he had watched in Umeda Theater in Osaka on December 9 of 1995, his birthday. Like a sleepwalker, Masahiro stumbled along the balcony outside the living room on the second floor.
“Whoa!! Help meeee!!” Masahiro shouted for help, and Mother and Father jumped out of bed in surprise in the next Japanese style room and ran up to the balcony.
Father and Mother desperately pulled up Masahiro who was about to fall over the balcony accidentally. Then they got Masahiro’s arms around and took him to his room. And they put Masahiro to a futon and got him to settle down, praying with their palms together that Masahiro would be better.
After recovering his composure a little, Masahiro told them, “Every night I dream that Godzilla is damaged by self-destruction and is dying in the movie, “Dying Godzilla.”
Mother said anxiously, “Darling, His neurosis would be worse if nothing is done. What’ll we do?”
Father didn’t know what to do and was dumb.
Then Mother remembered something and told Father, “I’ve ever read a book about psychic researches written by Dr. Tanzawa. I wonder if it wouldn't be possible to consult his psychic institute? I’ll try to call there.” The following day, Mother phoned Tanzawa Psychic Institute. “My son has been suffered from neurosis,” said Mother.
“Could you take Masahiro to us right now? Please come here,” Dr. Tanzawa, who got the phone, said to her. The Nakata family headed for Tanzawa Psychic Institute at about ten-thirty a.m..
Tanzawa Psychic Institute is a three-story log building located in a quiet town, where a lot of cottages stand in a row, and where there’re hot-spring resorts, near Oka Park in Higashihama Nishidokei in Taka County in Hyogo prefecture. The car of the family entered Takinosha Interchange of Chugoku Expressway, then going to the institute in about an hour. Dr. Tanzawa, the chief of the psychic institute, met them because he phoned them in advance. Dr. Tanzawa is 50’s and an elderly gentleman, with gray hair combed straight back and with silver-framed glasses.
The Nakata family consulted Dr. Tanzawa on Masahiro’s neurosis in the counseling room.
“Well, I think it’s because Godzilla’s spirit, who appears in Masashiro’s dreams every night, is asking him for help. So you’d better make the statue of Godzilla and build his tomb or stela somewhere,” explained Dr. Tanzawa.
Then the family heard Dr. Tanzawa’s detailed explanation for a while. P> “Unlike neurology, we don’t administer medical therapy. Medicines are not good to administer because they have side effects. No less important is that psychic phenomena affect the mind of the person, which would be a significant research subject for psychic research. I think we’ll need the records of psychic treatment as essential data to research, and this discipline will be progressing more. Then the Nakata family had lunch in the restaurant, “Log House,” which is next to the psychic institute. They ordered Log House’s special-----Yakiniku Set. The water was delicious because it was the local spring water.
The conversation of the waiters made them know that the owner of the restaurant was Dr. Tanzawa.
After leaving the restaurant, the family stopped by at Sundial Hill Park and took a rest there for about half an hour. Then the car of the family ran on the highway again, getting home.
The following day, Masahiro started producing the statue of Godzilla on the roof of his house. He framed the statue with woods and wires at first, then set about the process of fleshing out the framework with special clay.
Masahiro remembered being interested in Godzilla and other dinosaurs from childhood making the statue of Godzilla. Masahiro’s uniqueness is under the influence of his mother, for she likes writing poems and had written them sometimes. She would often draw paintings for Masahiro who was a little child. And Mother has a deceased granduncle named Tsutomu Takase on the paternal side, who was graduate of an art college in Tokyo and had been a painter. Masahiro started painting from childhood and his artistic sensibility developed, perhaps because he is related by blood to the granduncle.
When Masahiro was about six-years-old, he brought the book with the picture of Godzilla, and pestered Mom doing her job in the kitchen saying, “Draw the picture of this Godzilla for me, Mom.”
Though she was busy with her job, Mom drew the picture for Masahiro on the kotatsu (a fireplace with a coverlet).
Masahiro looked at and copied Mom’s, and got to draw the picture of Godzilla well.
And Masahiro went to see the Godzilla Revival movie of TOHO in a flick with his parents then. Masahiro was watching the Godzilla in the movie closely.
Besides, when he saw the ossified Godzilla sinking into the sea by being overcoming with Oxident Destroyer in the video of the black and white movie of the original Godzilla, Masahiro clung to Mother with grief. He must be sorry for Godzilla. Later Masahiro watched the videos of Godzilla Series several times. And when Masahiro was a junior student, he went to the Dinosaur Museum to see the bones of dinosaur fossils assembled with his parents.
Masahiro made the statue of Godzilla longing for his childhood memories. Therewithal, he remembered Anguirus and King Ghidorah, too, appearing on the scene with Godzilla. Masahiro completed the statue by coloring its body and painting its eyes. The statue is 60 centimeters wide and 2 meters high. Its pedestal is made of stone, which is one meter wide and 50 centimeters high; the family gave a nearby stonemason an order for the pedestal and had it conveyed to the housetop.
Finally Sunday came, when the psychic research presentation and the lecture’s going to be held at the multipurpose hall in Tanzawa’s psychic institute. Father, Mother and Masahiro attended the lecture that day.
A newly invented machine of research material is going to come out in the lecture meeting, so the participants ranged from students of the occult to ordinary people.
The lecture runs from 10 a.m., a lunch break in between, to 3 p.m. The lecture program reads: during the morning, there’ll be the lecture about psychic research by Dr. Tanzawa; from the afternoon, there’ll be the presentation of the machine of new invention.
The Nakata family arrived at the hall at about 10:30 a.m., but the lecture by Dr. Tanzawa had already begun, and there were two hundreds of people in the hall.
Dr. Tanzawa was giving a lecture, “Primitively the human race knew this world is a transient world. And they may have understood reincarnation.
As science marches on, we began to lose interest in spiritual things. At the same time, we began to forget we’re spiritual beings in nature gradually. The human race is not alive only with something visible. We are alive by what would be called consciousness, and have to know that even if the body perishes, the life exists even after death, the soul continues to exist.

The morning lecture by Dr. Tanzawa came to an end amid applause. On lunch break, the Nakata family had lunch at Log House that was next to the institute.
The today’s menu was a Log House’s special boxed meal, which was specially made for invited guests. The accompanying dish was a plover broiled with soy sauce and deep-fried vegetables.
The family was having dinner when Dr. Tanzawa and a doctor who is his friend came to the restaurant. Dr. Tanzawa found the family there and came up to them.
Dr. Tanzawa asked, “How’s Masahiro?”
Mother and Father told him that Masahiro had just completed the statue of Godzilla. “That’s great! Good for you! I’d like to see the statue of Godzilla.” Masahiro said to him, “As you said, I wish Godzilla’s spirit to be rest in peace by possessing the statue of Godzilla. I’m releasing from suffering from nightmare. This statue of Godzilla will be an object of psychics research?”
Asked a question from Masahiro, Dr. Tanzawa thought out aloud, “Hmm, let’s see… as for that, if making the statue of Godzilla led to your recovery from neurosis, it won’t impossible to prove that. From the afternoon there’ll be the presentation of a newly invented machine of research material, and let me introduce my friend Dr. Sakidori to you now.”
Dr. Sakidori was introduced by Dr. Tanzawa and exchanged greetings with the Nakata family.
Dr. Tanzawa is coeval with Dr. Tanzawa and bears a close resemblance to an inventive doctor who appeared in the movie, “Back To The Future.” Masahiro suddenly felt amused at that but looked down not to show it his face somehow.
Dr. Tanzawa kept talking, “I mean, the newly invented machine is for receiving and reading telepathic messages, and we’ll be able to catch the words of Godzilla’s spirit possessing the statue of Godzilla. If we can prove it, we’ll be able to write a paper on it and present it in the conference.”
Then the afternoon lecture, the presentation of the newly invented machine, started.
Dr. Tanzawa began to talk, “Since the beginning of history, the human race has been inventing many things as means of communication; for instance, in ancient times, beacons used to be used; and in recent times, there’re telegram and telephone. If one spirit can directly affect another one that is far from it, this would prove that there’s different energy from the ones we can perceive in this universe.
Materialistic people, who believe that an object doesn’t exist after annihilation, can’t believe phenomena that fly in the face of common sense. Physically that the flame of a match dies out without the match is a logical result, but telepathy bears evidence that only the flame can act far from its match. It’s unthinkable from the viewpoint of materialism.
If spirit, soul and mind can act by themselves far from its body, that would prove that they’re different presence from body. So it is no wonder they continue to exist after physical death.
Let me introduce the telepathy-receiving device that was newly invented. My fellow doctor, who will be introduced later, and I have studied over ten years, and it wasn’t released to public notice until now. Today and here, we’ll unveil it though it is in experimental stage. This catches bioenergies radiated from animate beings and reads messages included in them.
Let me introduce Dr. Tokumi Sakidori to all of you, who is my old friend and cooperated with me to invent this telepathy-receiving device. Dr. Sakidori is majoring in machine control engineering.” It was Dr. Sakidori who Dr. Tanzawa introduced to the Nakata family at the restaurant, “Log House,” in lunch break.
The telepathy-receiving device is a telephone-like form and has an antenna. A roll of paper tape is installed to the bottom of the left side of its device, and the tape on which telepathic message was written come out of it.
Dr. Sakidori explained about the telepathy-receiving device, “In short, what would be called telepathy is an existent, consciousness can exist even far from its body, spiritual waves pass through atmosphere and spiritual ability continues to exist also after physical death. Beside, not only between living people, but also between the dead and the living, telepathy can be done. This telepathy-receiving device is still in experimental stage. In our research, we discovered that the conscious state where alpha brain waves are generated controls bioenergy and causes paranormal phenomena. And we researched and developed the device that receives alpha waves. It’s still in experimental stage so we have to do a further research on it from now.”
Dr. Tanzawa kept talking, “This telepathy-receiving device was named SAKIDORI after Dr. Sakidori’s name. I hope all of you remember the name.”
The lecture of the research presentation came to an end at about 3p.m.. The car of the Nakata family traveled along Chugoku Expressway, and came back home.
Few days later, suddenly the statue of Godzilla on the housetop disappeared. It’s impossible that someone took away the statue of Godzilla, so the families were upset with the unexpected occurrence. Masahiro telephoned Dr. Tanzawa to tell about this, “Dr. Tanzawa, it’s strange! Although the statue is 2 meters high and is very heavy with special clay, I don’t know why on earth did someone take away that. I was recovering from neurosis by making that statue. What’ll I do, Doctor?”
Dr. Tanzawa too spoke with excitement, “I don’t know, whyever did someone take away such a huge thing? It’s impossible that human takes away it. It’s strange story, Masahiro. But I have a few guesses about it. I’ll call you later again.”
Masahiro thought of what Dr. Tanzawa said, “What does Doctor know about it?
Mother became anxious about this and called police to have them ferret out the criminal. The patrol car of the police arrived at the house, then cops closely investigated around the house and on the roof. But nothing related with this case was discovered.
Few days later, a newspaper reporter came to Nakata’s. The chime rang and Mother Humiko answered the intercom. “I heard the statue of Godzilla on the housetop had disappeared. And I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions,” said the reporter.
“Now we’re having the police investigate it, “ replied Mother.
“I heard your son had made the statue of Godzilla, and I wonder if you could tell me a little about it, “ the cub reporter was eager in eliciting information from her.
“Masahiro is out now to look for the lost statue of Godzilla around the house,” said Mother. The reporter asked her, “Well, I was wondering if I could wait here for a while.” Mother reluctantly allowed him to wait in the living room. After a while, Masahiro came back home.
The reporter talked to Masahiro as if he were a long-awaited visitor, “Masahiro, did you discover anything clue as to the lost statue of Godzilla?”
“No, not yet,” Masahiro said with displeasure. “That’s too bad. By the way, I heard you were drawing pictures of Godzilla. Could you show me some?” the reporter said to Masahiro encouragingly.
Masahiro said, “OK.” The reporter’s words gruntled Masahiro a little, and he brought some paintings of Godzilla and other monsters.
Looking at some of paintings of Godzilla and monsters Masahiro brought, The news reporter said with a slight excitement, “These are just great! These are quite unique paintings. You mustn’t leave them in. You know what, Masahiro? Why don’t you hold an exhibition of yours? If you want to give a exhibition, when you tell me about it, I’d like to cover you again.” Then the reporter, who came to ask them questions about the lost statue of Godzilla, left the house with a look of satisfaction with the talk of paintings.
However, the other area was undergoing another accident.
One morning, a fisherman went fishing to Akashi Port by boat.
The fisherman saw something black few score kilometers ahead, so he watched it through a telescope from the boat. That huge monstrous thing with fired eyes roared with his big mouth opened, “Gaoooooooooooo!!!” The loud roar was echoed all around. The fisherman was paralyzed with fright, but barely escaped alive and managed to arrive at the airport on the motorized boat. He immediately phoned police.
“My God!! A Monster! That creature with big black eyes roared with its big mouth opened!” the fisherman spoke desperately.
After being alerted by him, dozens of patrol cars got to Akashi Port, and cops, who went out of the patrol car, looked around, but couldn’t discover anything.
The following day, this case appeared in the newspaper, but at the same time, another incident, the lost statue of Godzilla on the roof of the Nakata’s house was also covered.
Koudoku Shinbun gave a great deal of space about the case like this: The monster, who appeared at Akashi Port, may be Godzilla, and this case may be related with the lost statue of Godzilla on the roof of Nakata’s house.
Getting a call from Dr. Tanzawa, the car of the Nakata family traveled along the expressway, heading for Tanzawa Psychic Institute. Several cars of newspapers chased after them.
The family finally arrived at Tanzawa Psychic Institute. And the three went out of the car, and rush into the institute. Also the people of newspapers, who was chasing after them, got to the institute. They alighted from their cars and crowded into the building. Then Dr. Tanzawa held an emergency press conference in it.
Dr. Sakidori, who is an old friend of Dr. Tanzawa, was there too.
“As for this case, why Godzilla appeared at Akashi Port, and does that have anything to do with the lost statue of Godzilla? I heard Dr. Tanzawa had suggested Nakata Masahiro-san to make the statue of Godzilla. Dr. Tanzawa, are you studying about Godzilla?” asked a newspaper reporter.
Dr. Tanzawa answered, “I’m not studying anything about Godzilla, but I have just started studying about telepathy and Godzilla’s spirit. This case’s quite mysterious.
Masahiro came to consult me because he was suffering from nightmare every night. He told me that since he had been shocked with the scene that Godzilla died by self-destruction in the fight against Destroyer in the movie, “Dying Godzilla,” he was having the nightmare of the scene every night. I thought that was a psychic phenomenon and that Godzilla’s spirit appeared to Masahiro in his dream to appeal something to him. So I thought if Masahiro made the statue of Godzilla, Godzilla’s spirit might be able to rest in peace by possessing the statue, and suggested Masahiro to do so. Masahiro made the statue of Godzilla on the housetop by himself as I had advised. But few days later, that statue disappeared, and something monstrous, or Godzilla appeared at Akashi Port. I gathered from the statue’s disappearance that Godzilla’s spirit possessed the statue on the housetop and teleported to Akashi Port.
“What did you say!? Godzilla teleported!? Dr. Tanzawa, please explain me more about it,” the reporter of Sanka Shinbun demanded.
Instead of Dr. Tanzawa, Dr. Sakidori answered his question.
“I mean, mass transfer, teleportation is… there’s different dimensional space from the four-dimensional space, and this different dimensional space can be said a spiritual space. Matter in the four-dimensional space goes through this different dimension, moving to other place. This can be called transfer to the different dimension or mass transfer. So I think Godzilla’s spirit possessed the statue of Godzilla on the roof of Masahiro’s house, and then teleported to Akashi Port.”
Then the reporter of Koudoku Shinbun asked, “And well, what will be in store for the statue of Godzilla his spirit possessed? What is Godzilla at Akashi Port going to do?”
Dr. Tanzawa was thinking of the question when Masahiro said, “Doctor, please let me answer to the question,” he went on speaking, “Godzilla’s spirit possessed the statue of Godzilla because he wants to appeal something. I think Godzilla will go into action to appeal to humankind something. When Godzilla lands down and starts moving, it would be inevitable that building and things are destroyed.”
After the emergency press conference, the Godzilla Emergency Headquarters was set up in this psychic institute. The participants ranged from scholar-classes to Godzilla maniacs and ordinary people. Besides, Self-Defense Forces was called on to participate.
Few days later, Godzilla appeared at Osaka Bay at about one in the afternoon. After his landing, Godzilla started moving.
Just when the new Shinkansen Nozomi 500 type bound for Shin-Osaka arrived at the station, Godzilla trampled down the late-model Shinkansen with his huge foot. At that time the riders was crowding into the entrance, so a lot of people were injured on impact, and people around Shin-Osaka station were in a state of panic. Ambulances got there one after another, then the ambulance attendants took the injured riders to the hospital.
It threw people around within Osaka city into confusion. The traffic got tied up and people got panicky because the evacuation order was issued.
People started evacuating from Osaka city far away. Workers and students returned home swiftly, and then started evacuating with their families. Any public transportation was paralyzed, and everyone escaped by car.
Godzilla came to Osaka Castle Park and breathed out fire to Osaka Castle, burning the castle. Then Godzilla started moving forward Kyoto.
The tank corps of Self-Defense Forces chased after Godzilla. They got its choppers in the air, too. Dozens of helicopters flying tried to prevent Godzilla from progressing, but Godzilla headed forward without batting an eye. The cars and helicopters of television stations followed Self-Defense Forces.
Each TV station broadcast Godzilla progressing live.
On the other hand, people were watching the TV screen showing it at the Godzilla Emergency Headquarters in Tanzawa Psychic Institute. The Nakata family was there, too.
A Godzilla maniac said, “Godzilla tends to breathe out fire to big buildings and things, so Kyoto’s cultural assets would be in danger!” “We let Godzilla head for his destination without hurting him, let him do a U-turn and let him return to the sea, “said the other Godzilla maniac.
“What if any damage is incurred until Godzilla returns to the sea? What if buildings are destroyed and burned and people are harmed? What if people are wounded and killed?” said a commoner.
Masahiro who is a Godzilla maniac said, “It is humankind who is making Godzilla so ropable. Godzilla is angry with poor humankind, who made nuclear weapons. Godzilla is really a God. Godzilla actually wants to appeal something to us. Godzilla appeared to show something to the human race, so he must telepathize us something. Please use this telepathy-receiving device SAKIDORI.”
Dr. Tanzawa, Masahiro, who is 18-years-old and a Godzilla maniac, and his parents together got in the car his assistant drives, and they chased after Godzilla moving forward. Also the car of the people at Godzilla emergency headquarters followed their car.
But the traffic jam on the expressway kept the cars from progressing, so it took for hours for the cars to catch up with Godzilla.
Godzilla invaded within Kyoto city, and knocked Kyoto Tower down with his tail.
Then Godzilla breathed out fire to the Golden Pavilion, burning it. Godzilla turned the tank guns by Self-Defense Forces, and made nothing of the bombing by the helicopters flying over.
“Godzilla passed Kitano Tenmangu, so his next destination is the five-storied pagoda of the To-ji temple! This pagoda has been named to the UNESCO list of world heritage. We have to stop Godzilla from burning it!”
Hearing on the radio that Godzilla is heading for the five-storied pagoda of the To-ji temple, the group of Dr. Tanzawa hastened to go there.
The car of Dr. Tanzawa’s group arrived at the To-ji temple just before Godzilla’s arrival at the five-storied pagoda.
Dr. Tanzawa, Masahiro who is a Godzilla maniac, his parents, Doctor’s assistant and the others went out of the car quickly, and headed for the five-storied pagoda.
At that time, Godzilla was coming to in front of the gate of the five-storied pagoda.
Dozens of the tanks of Self-Defense Forces and fire engines were coming to around the five-storied pagoda. There were the helicopters of Self-Defense Forces and the helicopters of newspapers flying over in the sky. Godzilla breathed out fire to the gate of the five-storied pagoda.
The gate began to burn, so the fire brigade started extinguishing a fire all at once.
Dr. Tanzawa with his assistant set up the telepathy-receiving device SAKIDORI, switched on it and trained its antenna on Godzilla. Then reporters from TV stations hold out a microphone to Masahiro all together. This was televised nationwide live on television, and besides, this news was broadcast worldwide by satellite.
Masahiro, who is a Godzilla maniac, spoke to Godzilla.
“Don’t destroy the five-storied pagoda! This pagoda is one of the Japanese important cultural assets named to the UNESCO list of world heritage.”
At that time, Godzilla gazed at Masahiro as if he was appealing something to him.
Masahiro understood what Godzilla wanted to say.
Masahiro spoke instead of Godzilla.
“As long as nuclear weapons exit on earth, I never rest in peace. I’m acting violently to convey the horror of nuclear weapon instead of the departed spirits who were killed by the atomic bombs of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Eliminate nuclear weapons from the world so that I can rest in peace, and peace will return to this world. I warn the human race on earth not to destroy and pollute the planet with nuclear weapons. “
Godzilla’s words knocked all of those who were there off his feet.
Masahiro, his parents, Dr. Tanzawa, his assistant, SDF members, fire brigade members, Godzilla emergency headquarters members, newspeople and others together offered up prayers to Godzilla’s spirit.
Godzilla’s spirit sent them a message by telepathy, “I’m going to appear on earth sometimes to warn all of you of the horror of nuclear weapon.”
After leaving the word with them, Godzilla again went back to Osaka Bay being bathed in the evening glow. Then the statue of Godzilla returned to on the roof of Masahiro’s house. Masahiro was released from suffering from nightmare since that and overcame neurosis.
Few days later, Dr. Tanzawa visited the Nakata family with his assistant.
That day was Sunday, and Masahiro and his parents received Doctor and the assistant in the living room, and everyone sat around the kotatsu
Dr. Tanzawa spoke to Masahiro, “Hey, Masahiro, you have a great psychic ability. The words you spoke instead of Godzilla by sensing telepathy were all the same as the words recorded the recording equipment of SAKIDORI. Guess what? This telepathy-receiving device SAKIDORI was rated highly for its function. Dr. Sakidori was pleased with it, too. It’s great that Godzilla’s spirit was be able to rest in peace, and the statue of Godzilla returned to on the roof of your house. And you were released from neurosis. Please feel free to drop in anytime with your parents. I’m going to read a paper about this in the psychic research conference.“ T
hen they went to see the statue of Godzilla on the housetop.
“It’s a stunning statue! Godzilla’s spirit seems on the point of possessing the statue and starting moving,” Dr. Tanzawa said with feeling.
“Yes, Dr. Tanzawa, Dr. Sakidori would come to see it sometime,” said the assistant.
Then Godzilla maniacs and people came to visit Nakata’s to see the statue of Godzilla. Also a moviemaker from the G Movie Company came to see the statue, then asked them to let him make a clone of the statue. Besides, he told them that he was going to make a TOHO Godzilla movie on this incident.
