2008年3月に発売した「Reflections on Sangeet」の売り上げから、寄付金の第1弾（2008年）,2弾（2009年）をインドに送ることができました。多くの方に聴いて頂き、メッセージなども賜り、大変嬉しく思います。この場を借りて、改めて御礼申し上げます。
I'm very happy to announce that I could send the part of the sales of CD, "Reflections on Sangeet" released in March 2008, to Indian NGO as donation recently.
第一弾は、コルカタで、無料でコンピューターを教え、貧しい子供たちに職業訓練を行っているNGO,Uddamiに送られました。Uddamiの活動は団体のウェブサイトでも紹介されています（日本語あり）。Uddamiの活動拠点はインドの西ベンガル州の首都、コルカタ（旧カルカッタ）です。
コルカタは、州内からだけでなく、ビハール州や、隣国のバングラデシュ（東ベンガル。西ベンガル州とは、宗教は異なるが、話す言語や生活習慣が似ている）から、土地を捨てた貧しい農民が流れ込んできます。映画化もされた「City of Joy」でも観られるように、多くのスラムがあり、路上で生活する人々が日常的に見られる大都会です。
Uddamiでは、貧しい家庭の子供、また、親を亡くした（時には親に捨てられてしまった）子供たちを奨学金制度を通して学校に送ったり、英語教育やコンピューターのトレーニングを無料で提供しています。徹底した少人数教育で、着々と卒業生を送り出しています。
コルカタの抱える多くの問題のうちのひとつが、失業問題です。貧しい家庭は、カーストが低かったり、イスラム教徒であることが多いのですが、英語が話せたり、コンピューターを使うことができると、比較的お給料の高い仕事に就くチャンスに恵まれます。
The first small donation was sent to Uddami, based in Kolkata, State of West Bengal of India. You can get information about Uddami's great activities and services on their website (Both in English and Japanese). As we have seen in the book and the film, "City of Joy", Kolkata city has many slums and you will see many people inclusding children living on the street.
Many people escape from their original place to Kolkata in search for better life. Many of them come from the West Bengal, the neighboring state Bihar or neighboring country, Bangladesh (West Bengal and Bangladesh, East Bengal, share the same language and similar culture despite religious difference). But in most of the cases, they end up living on the street due to the lack of job in kolkata and evergrowing population.
Uddami provides scholarship to some students to go to school, free English education and computer training. Most of the students are from lower caste family or Muslim family who always face social discrimination. Uddami's aim is to offer these services in order to make them get better jobs.
Uddamiのような質の高いサービスや設備を提供するにはかなりのお金が必要です。なぜならば、コンピューターを湿気や熱やほこりから守るために（インド大都市滞在者ならば経験したことがあると思いますが、とにかく機械がすぐ壊れます）空調機を整備したり、治安のよい高級住宅地に近いエリアにオフィスを構えたり、スタッフに十分なお給料を払う必要があるからです。
Uddamiに、小額の寄付でどのようなことができるかきいてみたところ、以下のようなリストが届きました。
To keep high quality service like the one of Uddami is costly. If you have stayed in Kolkata for a long time, you must have seen that computers easily get damages by heavy moisture, heat and dust.
To maitain good condition of the office, keeping the office in a safe area in the city, and paying good salary to staffs is very important. I requested Uddami to send me the list of "What you can do for Uddami with small amount of donation".

- 10 Windows XP system licences - $120 (so we don't have to use pirated software)
- Rent for one month - Rs. 5500
- 1 adjustable computer chair (Rs. 2500)
- 1 computer table - Rs. 2700 (imagine, less than a standing fan!)
- 1/2 a Canon digital camera ($194) (to replace our stolen one)
- unlimited Internet access for 1 month - Rs. 3300
