Q:(AW11)AW11 engine trouble(1997.11.30) from Eric Bayneさん
Please can you help me.
I own a 1985 “Japanese” MR2 16G "non supercharged". This car was
privately imported from Japan in 1990 and not imported for the
Australian Market.
・Chassis Number is AW11-0024414
・Engine Number 4AGELO-0470414
・Label Number 935854
The local Toyota dealer here in Adelaide, South Australia says that he
is receiving a code 05 on the computer diagnostic. He says that his
manual only indicate codes 01,02,03,04,06 etc and the codes may be
different for a non standard privately imported version.
The car has an intermittent fault when the conditions are hot the car
will not idle and will not start unless the I have my foot on the
accelerator. The mechanic says the engine is running very rich at
idle and it will puff black smoke in the lower revs.
My question is can you help me with the codes?
The other option is. Where can I obtain a set of 1985 manuals in English
for my car?
Other than the minor fixable problems. I LOVE THE CAR!!!

Sorry my broken English.
My car had a trouble that's engine don't idle, and stall soon.
If your case is same it,
Check the vacume pipe. It was broken in my case.
if it's broken, repair it and adjust the slotle position senser.
It's better to change the battery that's for three years.
And check the plugs.

Hello, Eric.
I wish you are already solved your engine trouble.
But if you are still in trouble, please read this.
I asked Toyota's dealer about code 05.
The answer was,
"4AGELU has 11 diagnostic codes, from 1 to 11.
The code 5 indicates O2 sensor is broken."
And, this is from me, please check the throttle valve.
If it is dirty, idle will not stable on rainy day.
You can clean throttle valve, using carburetor cleaner with brush.
