Professor of Mass Communication and Journalism at Musashi University.

Director of the Japan Society for Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication.

A Commissioner of the Motion Picture Code of Ethics (Eirin) of Japan.

Deputy director of  the Broadcasting Program Council of BS-Fuji Telecasting Company.

 

■ Brief Profile

       Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan.

         After finishing her study at Ochanomizu Women's University in 1965, she started her career as an anchor of Fuji-TV Company, which was one of the major commercial network stations in Japan.

The company had a prejudice against women.  Female anchors were supposed to resign after four years  from their college graduation.  Appealing the company to let female workers continue to work, they partially succeeded in working for two additional years.  She worked for six years for the company altogether.

Then she was given a full scholarship for studying abroad for the first time from the College Women’s Association of Japan. In 1972, she came to the U.S. to broaden her horizons while completing  a graduate study for Master's degree at Francisco State University.

She participated in the First World Women’s Conference held at Mexico City right after she finished her graduate study in 1975.  In 1980 she finished her course study for the Doctoral course at Ochanomizu  Women'sUniversity.  She worked as a freelance writer, TV anchor, and instructor of a few Universities.

In 1985 she became a professor at Fukushima Women’s College.  In 1990 she became a professor at Edogawa University.  In 1995 she became a professor at Musashi University teaching for both graduate and undergraduate students.

       She was a visiting scholar at E. W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University between April 2000 and March 2001.

      She assumed deanship between April  2001 and March 2003.  She was appointed for the director of Musashi Research Institute from April 2004 to March 2006.
