	The knack of the long-lived state TOKUGAWA-BAKUFU

Do you know the world's longest novel? It's neither Dostoevski's work nor Steinbeck's work. Of course the Old Testament is not. It's "Tokugawa-Ieyasu" written by Yamamoto Souhati Japanese. Do you know the world's longest uniformed state? It's neither Holly Roman Empire nor KAN Empire of China. Of course the USA is not. It's "TOKUGAWA BAKUFU STATE" of EDO-ZIDAI era of Japan". Why do you think this state was so much long-lived state? Historic major may tell thus "Because of Absolutism or Feudalism" or "Because of the Policy which is to close doors to foreign countries" However I am convinced it is because of the personal traits of TOKUGAWA-IEYASU who is the originator of TOKUGAWA-BAKUFU. His cardinal personal traits were follows. At first he never criticized or condemned not only his friends but also his enemies. Because he knew that criticism wounds a person's precious pride, arouses resentment and drives person into opposition.. Next he was a good listener and he encouraged other people to talk other's opinions. He never denied other's opinion even though it was an inferior opinion. And he replied "Oh it's a good idea! Wonderful! Thank you for you good idea. If you hit on another good idea, please teach me again!" So he could enlist the willing cooperation of people. At third he never drove his foes into a corner even though it was an overwhelming victorious battle. So cornered foes would not make a counterattack. In short he made his opposition to be friends one after another and finally every opposition leaders changed to be his friends. The typical example is DATE-MASAMUNE who was the king of north Japan district. In the end his state TOKUGAWA-BAKUFU was upheld by all over Japan, and lived so much long. [TOKUGAWA-BAKUFU 1603-1867]	みなさんは世界で一番長い小説を知っていますか？　それはドストエフスキーの作品でもなく、スタインベックの作品でもありません。　もちろん旧約聖書でもありません。実は、日本人の山本荘八の書いた「徳川家康　全２６巻」なのです。みなさんは世界で一番長く生き延びた統一国家を知っていますか？それは神聖ローマ帝国でもなく、中国の漢帝国でもないのです。もちろんアメリカ合衆国でもありません。実は日本の江戸時代の徳川幕府なのです。みなさんは、どうしてこの国がそんなに長く続いたと思われますか？歴史の権威者は絶対主義のせいであるとか、封建制のためであるとか、鎖国のためであると言うかもしれません。しかし、私が思うに、徳川幕府の創始者である徳川家康の個人的な特質によるものだと思います。彼の主な個人的特質とは次のようなモノです。第一に、彼は相手が味方であろうが、敵であろうが、決して人をなじったり、とがめたりしませんでした。どうやら彼は、人を非難すると、相手のプライドを逆なでしたり、立腹させてしまったり、敵を増やしてしまうと言うことを知っていたようでした。第二に彼は人の話を良く聞き、さらにどんどんしゃべらせました。そして彼は、たとえ相手の話が低レベルでも、否定しませんでした。そして彼は「なるほどなるほど、それは良い考えだ。ありがとう。また何か思いついたらいつでも知らせてくれ」と言いました。だから人々は、一生懸命彼のために尽くそうとしました。第三に彼は、大勝利の戦いに於いても、最後まで追いつめませんでした。だから窮地に陥った敵は、窮鼠猫を噛むような反撃には出ませんでした。要するに、彼は敵を次から次へと味方に変貌させていったのです。そして最後にはすべての反旗を翻す各地の大名たちを味方にしてしまったのです。その典型的な例が伊達政宗です。結局、徳川幕府は日本の隅々から後押しをされて、長寿政権をうち立てたのでした。
