Time to meet:

Shortly before 4am.

Meeting place:

The intersection of Tsukiji Yon (4)-chome, in front of a convenience store Lawson's.
.

map of the meeting place
How to get to the meeting place:

Taxis are almost the only transportation at the time of the tour. Tell the taxi driver "Tsukiji Yon (4)-chome." A good taxi driver would take you to the intersection with only that.
If it doesn't work, add the word, "Convenience store Lawson's." 'Convenience store' is already a Japanese word and the taxi drivers have the locations of all the convenience stores in Tokyo in their car navigation systems.

Description of the tour:

This tour is a combination of my old tour and the TMG official blue-fin tuna auction observation. So, you could call it a Hybrid Tsukiji Tour in a way.
I will guide you to the important points of the Market besides the tuna auctions from 4AM to 5AM. The tuna auction area is too dangerous to walk around in a guided tour anymore because there are too many security guards and they easily kick you out these days.
Then I will guide you to the reception spot of the TMG observation at 5:20, so please attend the first set of the observation that starts from 5:25. If the first set is packed, you may attend the second set that starts from 5:45.
When you finish your observation, I will meet you again at the spot the TMG disbands you outside the Market. I will guide you to a few more spots and that will be the end of the whole Safer Tsukiji Tour.

What we do when I take you around:

1) We take a short look at the jyogai-shijo (the outer market).
2) I give you a short introduction about of the history of the Market.
3) I give you a short introduction of the location in front of a map of the Market.
4) We get inside the Market from the main gate.
5) We walk the vegetable & fruits site (there is a vegetable auction from 7am and a fruit auction from 7:30am that you could watch at freely).
6) I will show you the location of the best sushi restaurants inside the market.
7) We will walk around the middlemen store area. I will also instruct you how to find the locations of the interesting middleman's stores. You could come back later on your own to watch them at tuna carving or whatever.
8) We will watch the uni (sea urchin) auction.
9) We will see the living fish site.
10) I will take you to the building (if possible) that you could get on the roof top and have a grandstand view of the whole market.
11) We may visit a shrine called the Nami-yoke Shrine that all the workers at the Market worship.

The details and orders above are general ideas and they may slightly change depending on the situations.

Tour fee:

7500 yen per person. Please pay in cash.

We had a compliment from our clients!
Katia Suguio-san and Augusto Ensiki-san from Brazil took our tour on Tuesday August 23, 2011. They kindly sent us a compliment as the follows:
Hi Naoto-san,
Thank you again for the tour this morning! Katia and I both really enjoyed it and appreciated the tips you gave. They held us at the reception area until about 550am, so unfortunately we weren't able to meet up again with you after the auctions. However, we did go to the middleman you mentioned (7123) and got to see them carving several tunas! Afterwards, we went to the sushiya you recommended (the father's side) and it was fantastic - I literally ate everything he had in stock this morning!
Thank you once again!
Augusto
