In mid January, Mr. Takashi Fukaya, Minister of International Trade and Industry, visited Kaisho-no-mori (Kaisho Forest Area) where World Exposition 2005 will be held at. The purpose of his visit is to see whether that exposition plan can really preserve the natural environment during and after the expo. This issue was pointed out by BIE in France, the authority of World Exposition.
Based on BIE's claim, Aichi Prefecture Government has to reconsider the plan itself, so that the environment can be preserved more. .

Now, we discussed the necessity of World Exposition 2005 in Aichi.

Which do you think World Expo 2005 is really necessary?

• World Exposition is necessary for construction companies. To some extent, building something big is good for economy. In this sense, it is really good for the recovery of Japanese Economy.
• It is almost impossible to cancel the expo. I can not understand why BIE pointed this issue out NOW.
• World Exposition itself is not so bad thing, because it is a good chance for us to know the world. However, it is not necessary for us to use Kaisho-no-Mori for residential area. Instead of residential area, government shall establish any institute of environmental research.

• Currently, new big residential area is not necessary any more. The current situation is quite different from that of Osaka Expo. We should take this into our consideration.
• Government should think what should be sustained and what should be developed. And they should change the current policy of old style development, because the environment era has come.
• From the economic point of view, it is not good for Aichi Prefecture. Currently, Aichi Prefecture Government is financial deficit. So, I can not understand why we should hold it NOW.
• Humankind itself is a pollution. So, we should not enter the Kaisho Forest.
