Basic Data of India

The second largest population in the world
The population of India is around 1,065 mil. It is about 10 times of Japan's population.

Mixture of Culture
Since India is geographically on important Indian Ocean trade routes, India has been a transfer point between the West and the East in the history. Because of this geographical reason, there are many different culture in India

The national language is Hindi. Besides Hindi, there are 18 ethnic languages in India. But, English is the most important language for national, political, and commercial communication

Geographical Situations
India is located between Himalayan mountains and Indian Ocean.
In northern part of India called "Kashmir", we can see many beautiful mountains of Himalayan.
In southern part of India, there are many beautiful beaches facing Indian Ocean.
In the eastern part of India called "Assam", there is a big tea field.

Food Habit
"What the most typical food in India?".
Most of foreign people may answer to this question like "Curry".
Yes, it's true. Curry is the most elemental food item for Indian, like rice for Japanese. We eat curry every day.
In India, there are many kind of curry spices. And, there are many different cucina of curry, such as vegetable curry, bean curry, meat curry, cheese curry, and so on.
Thus, Curry in India is much more profound than you can imagine.

Religions
Indian is very religious. 82% of them is Hindu, 12% Muslim , 2.5% Christian.

The Caste System
The caste is a hereditary class system in India.
In this system, there are five different levels of the system: "Brahman" (priest), "Kshatriya" (ruler or landowner), "Vaishya" (merchants), "Shudra" (artisans or agriculturists), and "Harijans (once known as "untouchables").
Especially in rural areas, discriminations against the lower level of people are very serious problems in the society.

Education in India

Importance of Learning English
As mentioned
earlier, English is very important in business situations, even though it enjoys associate status in India.
To achieve the success in the future, most of Indians are eager to learn English at their very early stage of life. For instance, most of them start learning English from 4 years old.
Owing to this educational situation, most people can speak English in India.
