Snapshot at Mr. Chambers's Lecture 5. Gerrymander
In US, many kind of people, whose ratial or cutural background are different, live in a society. Those who have the same cultural basis or belief are likely to reside closely each other. This makes a community with a culture and opinion. Those communities have stong political power to affect elections. Therefore, Designing the district is very important for election in US.
"Gerrymander" means to design the district for a election profitably to the disigner's party. In 1812, The governor of Massachusetts, E. Gerry, designed a destrict for an election profitably to his party. The shape of this district was simmilar to salamander. Thus, Gerrymander is generated from "(Elbridge) Gerry" and "salamander".
