Education System in England

Age 5-11:
The National Curriculum (Guideline defined by gorvernment): At the age of 11 the students are tested to check that they have a basic knowledge of Maths, English, Science, History, Geography and in some cases a modern language.
There are no entry requirement for students to move to the next level of education.

Age 12:
Students take tests and are placed into STREAMS.
Age 13:
Students choose 8-12 subjects to study for the next 2 years.
Age 14-16:
Students prepare for their GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) in their chosen subjects.
Age16:
Students take their GCSE exams. If they get at least 5 subjects with grade C or above they can move onto Sixth Form level.
Age 16-18:
Students stay at school for another 2 years, get a job or go to college.
"College" is not the same as the U.S. Whichever the student choses they prepare for their A Level tests, which are a requirement for university entry, or they can study BTEC, which is more vocational.
Age18-21:
Most students study just 3 years at university in England.

Difference of Students in England and in Japan

At school in Japan, boys tend to gather in a group and girls tend to gather in another group. Those groups always stay far from each other. In England, boys and girls usually stay toghther and study together. It is very natural.

Japanese students have higher scientific ability. However, they are not creative. I think this situation is caused by Japanese education system. In Japan, teachers tell all students to do the same things on the same way.
On the other hand, English students don't have as high sceientific ability as Japanese student. However, English students are much more creative. They make toys what they want, in school.
We can't define which is better. However, we have to improve education system and make the best solution of education system.
