Everyone knows we can not survive without pure water, clean air, and sunlight which have been taken for granted but not now. Owing to all these three resources, human beings have survived through as long as 2000 year's history.

How wonderful and mysterious it is for us people to live on the earth which would be an exceptional planet in the space. "Beautiful !" is the word explained by all the astronauts who have seen it from the space. But we wonder how long or how well we could keep this earth as it is because of our careless irresponsible behavior.

In those days, we used to respect the nature and share the harvest of the nature among other creatures.
In other words, we used to coexist with them on the earth maintaining the ecological balance. But as we've got more wisdom and more knowledge, people seem to be too arrogant and greedy to the nature.

We have not been taking care of environment so much with the justification that we should develop the industry or we should enforce the economic power. But now, any industry must be based on environmental directions while appreciating all the things we have invented and developed for our own benefits.

New industry has to be taken into consideration of air emissions, degrading organic wastes, bench and pilot scale treatability investigations, analytical testing and research, and recycling of harzardous and non-hazardous wastes.

For example, "Soft yet strong, gentle yet bracing. It's nature's way... and we'd like to be a part of it.", is a catch-phrase of one of the biggest heavy industrial companies in Japan. And also, "The most visionary of today's designers see the earth as a machine for living and honor nature as a guide to structure a whole new world.", says an architect in America, who designs houses whose roofs are planted with native grasses and wild flowers atop and could get more sunlight.

Such new products as fabrics that do not contain mutagens or carcinogens, dolls made without PVCs, biodegradable yogurt catons, a recycable Nike sneaker made with soles that when they disintegrate, will serve as nutrients for the soil might be helpful for the earth.

But the gasoline-powered internal combustion engine is a serious menace to the environment. Although cars are far cleaner than before, they are demanded to be emissions-free as soon as possible. Electric cars, hybrid cars or fuel cell cars are wanted.
