Jupiter was decreasing altitude in the evening sky toward solar conjunction in November. 2006 Apparition has substantially been over by the end of this month. This month, we have received observations listed below.
| Observer | Location | Telescope | Images/Drawings | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fukui, Hideto | (Shizuoka, Japan) | 25cm Refl. | 3 | images |
| Horikawa, Kuniaki | (Yokohama, Japan) | 16cm Refl. | 2 | drawings |
| Miyazaki, Isao | (Okinawa, Japan) | 40cm Refl. | 9 | images |
We could not track details of Jupiter surface any longer, since every observation this month was made under poor condition. According to images on Oct. 10 (Miyazaki), 15 (Miyazaki and Fukui) and 22 (Miyazaki), RS bay was more prominent than RS itself which was pale orangish oval with diffuse outline. SEB following RS was dull without bright spot. Light band observed in SEB around II:200 deg. (Oct. 1, Miyazaki) would probably be traces of mid-SEB outbreak. EZs was dusky, especially around I:0 deg. which was main part of disturbance. NEBn white spot WSZ was at about II:140 deg. (Oct. 10, Miyazaki), seen as a bay on n. edge of the belt.
The last observation of this apparition was made by Fukui on Oct. 29. It will be early December that Jupiter appears again in the east sky. In the coming apparition, we should keep careful watch over darkened EZs as well as RS and reddish BA. Also, we have to make sure whether North Temperate Current-C has taken place during solar conjunction.
Saturn was rapidly increasing altitude in the morning east sky. Though we had more clear sky this month than ordinary years, seeing was generally poor. This month, we have received observations listed below.

At present, no markings, such as white spots, are found on Saturn. EZ was wide yellow-white zone, and its southern half was the brightest on Saturn, while northern half somewhat dusky. The most prominent belt was SEB, which separated into two components as well as last apparition, and northern one was darker. On the south, STB was visible as a diffuse broad belt. The region between STrZ and STZ has pale blue-green tint in contrast to reddish SEB. Further south, SSTB and SSTZ were again reddish, and South Polar Region was dark green. On the other hand, high northern latitudes appeared from north side of the ring, but no feature was seen to be mentioned except that it was bluish.
